Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr

Post by jimeney »

Am I right in thinking the lack of GMA500 support on the newer kernels will mean we're not likely to ever see this on the joggler, or did I misunderstand some of the earlier posts regarding this?

Any ideas where I would start trying to build this for the joggler (my Linux skills are fairly limited)? or would someone be prepared to give it a go if they think there's value to running it?

Newer kernels have good GMA500 support - it's just the hardware acceleration that doesn't work, which may or may not be a big deal, depending on what you want to use your Joggler for. However, anything beyond kernel 3.10 has audio problems. Not insurmountable audio problems, but ones which I don't have the knowledge to fix.

I've had a development branch base system of 14.04 running for a while, so there's no reason why it shouldn't make its way onto the Joggler in some form.

If your Linux skills are limited, rolling your own OpenFrame OS is an ambitious place to start! But if you want to give it a shot, debootstrap is where I start from if you want to do some reading. A compiled version of GRUB for booting is available from my site, or just download SQPOS v2 and have a poke around at the files in there.
BirdsLikeWires - Get fresh builds of Debian Bullseye, Bookworm, and Trixie for OpenFrame with the latest 5.10, 6.1, and 6.12 kernels! 8-)

I will be putting together something soon I hope (ubuntu base / xubuntu etc). Will be a horrible mix of new stuff plus ancient xserver though like the rest of the distros...
