Updated O2 wireless driver.

Post by hawsey »

After having a few wireless issues, this was brought to my attention
http://www.jogglerwiki.com/wiki/Updated ... ess_driver

Does anybody who is interested or has less than perfect wireless at the moment have the skills to try this out :-)
I am happy to test if an image of the stock os with the updated drivers is made .
Also I am happy to be pointed in the right direction with my limited skills :$.
Roobarb has kindly offered to update his stock image with these drivers if they work ok.
Cheers

I used this driver on the original stock OS but can't say it made an awful lot of difference.

Thanks for that dwl99, I cant help thinking we might be better off with the new one though for us wireless users, as it is the latest driver although the "if it aint broke " philosophy could also be used as well :-o .
I will try the channel 8 thing Heiner posted tonight and report back see below

Reg. Wireless Issue:
I have similar probems and I tried the drivers from the Wiki - they work, but not any better than the original ones.
(Hawsey - pls let me know, when you move this discussion to another thread, so this one does not get hijacked - although it is original O2 s/w PNPIII related)

However I noticed (and I think it was also stated somewhere in this forum a while ago - but I can't find it....) that the wireless preformance is greatly dependent on 2 things:
1) Mainly the wireless mode - where N-mode has very poor receiving performance and G mode is much better
2) Also the Channel used - channel 8 gave me by far the best performance. Even switching 1 down or up degraded reception massively (And this is not influenced by neighboring WLANs! We have luckily very few / none around)

With optimizing the 2 items (via Router settings) I was able to have consistent min. 11Mb/s reception from one floor to the other for my joggler, whereas before I was barely able to get 1Mb/s with frequent dropouts

2) is easy to fix by telling my route to use channel 8
but 1) is tricky, since switching the router to G-mode makes all my other N-mode devices also slow......

-> My question: Has anybody an idea how to force the joggler (stock OS w/ PNPIII) to use G-Mode?

I tried setting the wireless channel to 8 tonight as suggested :-) I was a little sceptical and like to keep things a little measured so I did five before and after speed tests with a non flash based speed tester.
Before
1: 6.4 meg
2: 5.7
3: 6.7
4: 6.9
5: 7.1

After
1: 7.9
2: 8.7
3: 9.1
4: 7.1
5: 8.9

So it does look like it was a worthwhile exercise but I am still yet to try my streaming of tv / radio to prove it.
