Can someone help a newbie?

Post by Darkmatter »

Hi All,

I've just been given a joggler and I intend mod it so that I can use it like a squeezebox as I've seen elsewhere on this forum. The friend I got it off said that it has not been used for sometime and therefore I assume it has not had the update applied. Certainly when booting it appears to have the O2 skin. The firmware is: 8686.S3 (boardrev:2)[ID=30306]
Software is: 26635.S3 (Jun 25 2010:14:30:20)

I have left it connect to the internet for sometime and it has not updated. I have tried to set a manual update and it states no update is available.

My question is:

Is it running the latest firmware and if not where do I find the latest firmware update and how do I install it?

I intend to install PNPIII, I assume this does not touch the firmware.

Finally, if this little project works out (I intend to do the optical out mod and connect it to my amp) I would consider getting a second one. Is it possible set the two up so that one works as the receiver and the other as the controller in a similar fashion to the squeezebox duet.

Thanks

David

To update the Operating System to the final debranded version:

1) Download this file to your PC from ftp://ftp.exotica.org.uk/pub/joggler/fi ... -14.img.gz (230Mb download - unzips to 400Mb so a small USB will do)
2) Extract the .img file
3) Use a program called Win32DiskImager on your PC to write the .img file to a USB stick
4) Insert the newly created USB stick into the Joggler and boot it up.
5) After a bit of USB activity on the o2 or OpenPeak first boot screen it should go through a reflashing sequence (on a blue screen).
6) When finished, it should say 'Ready' on a green screen.
7) Take out the stick, reboot and hopefully you'll have a working Joggler, ready to move onto the next stage
(installing PnP III) ;)

Some people have had to try 4 or 5 USB sticks to find one which works!

Note: It'll still say o2 when you switch it on.
