Best USB stick for Joggler?
Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
+ 1 on the USB 3.0 sticks.
I haven't purchased an SSD stick in a couple of years now.
That said helping someone in the EU the SSD USB sticks were almost impossible to find for sale.
These were / are large. They do no fit inside of the Joggler unless you take them out of their plastic case. That and they are still larger than the USB WLAN sticks that they replaced inside of the Joggler.

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
I've also used the 16gb Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 stick for my Joggler working as a tvheadend server. The OS is Xubuntu and it seems to work without issues for my needs.roobarb! wrote:Just my 2p here - I've recently been playing with SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 sticks. They're brilliant and OpenFrames boot from them just fine.
Obviously the Joggler doesn't have USB 3.0, but the quality of the flash memory in these sticks is really first rate. The 16GB ones will do 250MB/s read and 50MB/s write - the 32GB one does the same but with 100MB/s writes. Over USB 2.0 this translates to around 40MB/s both ways.
I'll have to run some speed tests on the Joggler itself, but things run brilliantly - particularly reading the database from Logitech Media Server. Plus you can get the 16GB version for about £10 on eBay these days.
The only down side is that they're not small. But they do fit internally (just!) if that's your thing. Also, check the ratings - some older versions are a tad slower, particularly on the read speeds.
See my thread here for details:

It's probably overkill for my needs, but seems to boot up relatively quickly and I'm not aware of any problems so far.
Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
I've just purchased a "sandisk ultra fit usb3 16gb" stick. The Integral usb3.0 sticks I had before ended up showing very poor performance - probably suffered from bad random access. This sandisk stick is very small, and does well in benchmarks so I'm hoping it will be a good choice for my Joggler. I will update with details when it arrived.

Did yours arrive BuZz and is it any good if so ?
I just spied the 32 gig version for 10 quid here

They do look ideal for our Jogglers and hopefully being USB 3 will max out the speeds we need on the USB 2 for the Joggler if you know what I mean

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
damn. I paid £9 for the 16gb
I have tested it yeh - very nice and quick on the Joggler - fastest small form factor stick I've used. Will it last though - that's to see.

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
When I install Squeezeplay OS on a USB 3.0 device, will Squeezeplay OS boot and work faster than installing it on the internal memory of the Joggler?
And if yes, is the Sandisk Ultra Fit a good choice? Or is it better to go for the Sandisk Extreme?
I am not very technical so I apologize when these are stupid questions!

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
It will be faster. Internal flash is slow and will die eventually. Ultra fit is a good stick so far

These have been discussed here and this looks like a good offer, but you'll need to act quick to get it, me thinks...

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
Are people still happy with their SanDisk Ultra Fits?
I'm running Android on a Transcend 8Gb class 6 microsd, and wondered if I'd see much of an improvement in responsiveness if I went for the USB3 stick? I know the stick is a lot faster, but with the Joggler being USB2 and limiting throughput, and also some larger sticks not performing well with small amounts of reads/writes, I wondered realistically if I could expect to see much of an improvement in user experience - eg I doubt it would become twice as responsive.
TO my mind, the Joggler is running Android with a small selection of apps quite nicely already.
They're back on at £9.99

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
MyMemory is doing the deal on the SanDisk 32GB tiny usb sticks again, this time 2 for £17.98...
Look here for the advert :
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/
And the actual page for the sticks is here :
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/USB-Flash-Dri ... =spotlight
On the above page the promotion is not shown, but when you add 2 to your cart the price will be updated to £17.98. Last time I bought some - mentioned above - the promotion didn't go through, but I raised a ticket and got a refund for the amount I was overcharged. They were delivered in reasonable time and have been fine. Not used them on the joggler yet, but the performance difference I've had, even from cheap and slow usb3 sticks has been noticeably much better then the usb2 sticks I have used. Then again, I only have cheap and nasty usb2 sticks that are a few years old.
Don't forget 4% cashback through TopCashBack as well.
@rivergo1d
How is your joggler accessing the uSD card ? Must be through some sort of usb interface. Maybe your using a usb3 uSD reader ? In which case you'll be benefiting. Even though the Joggler is usb2, usb3 sticks have much better performance and probably allow the usb2 interface to perform at the top-end of it's capabilities. This is my understanding of why usb3 sticks are good to use, and is certainly my finding, even with the cheapest usb3 datatraveller sticks. The sandisk thumb nail sticks are nice because they are one of the fastest, and if you just want to put a stick into your joggler usb port and nothing else, there is not a lot sticking out. If you have some of the betting shop jogglers, with one of the sandisk sticks, it will be like having a very thick tablet... Or with a regular joggler - a tablet with a polished metal carrying handle
HTH - and be quick with mymemory as it may not be around for long.

Re: Best USB stick for Joggler?
I have my transcend stick in one of those tiny microsd to usb converters, about the same size or less than the sandisk ultrafit. So it's already nearly invisible, and I find android pretty fast, which means I'm not sure there's so much for me to gain.
If I were still trying to run xbmc or xubuntu then I'd probably give it a try
