Symptom check?

Post by d6jg »

I received a Joggler this am having taken the plunge and bid on one on eBay. It looks to be in very good condition, booted OK to one of the original o2 installs and worked fine for an hour or two while I was out.

I bought it for a Squeezebox related project but before installing Squeezeplay OS I decided to reflash it it with the Openpeak v30330 image with the intention of then installing PNPIII.

I carefully followed the instructions. Switched off the joggler. Popped the USB disk in and switched back on. The screen flashed once and nothing .....

I found another USB stick and repeated. Same and no evidence of any USB disk activity

If I remove the stick and reboot I get a flash and then a blank screen. No o2 image or anything. Is this an EFI issue ?

Am I correct in thinking that I should still be able to boot from the USB with an alternate OS ? I have tried writing Squeezeplay OS external to a USB but when I boot I just get the quick flash, black screen and no USB disk activity.

Can anyone advise what might have occurred ?

Hello and welcome to the forum, have a look on Roobarbs site here
http://birdslikewires.co.uk
It sounds to me like you might need to do the blind typing method to rescue this one, sorry I am not at a pc at the Mo but everything you need will be on the above site. Please feel free to jump in anyone else :-).

Thanks for that.
I have read that page earlier but understood the blind bit only applied if there was an O2 logo but no boot not a blank screen?
I will give it a try tomorrow anyway

Tried the blind keyboard thingy. No joy.
I was careful (I do this sort of thing fairly frequently) but I suspect the Joggler's EFI chip has fried :(
Anyone want to try and fix it for me ? I don't have access to a working Joggler to remove its chip etc

That's a shame , however I would not give up trying different components if you have them to hand to try the blind typing method : I have one hub and 1 keyboard that will not work using this method . I gave up on one Joggler and did the same as yourself and received a new efi chip off another kind member of the forum ( Pete you know your name :-))
And it seemed to fix it at first but in the end it just needed a different combination of USB stick / keyboard /USB hub.
So what I am saying is try again swapping couple of things around and if you fail report back and I will fish out the spare efi chip I have for you ..

If I remember correctly the USB stick is best in port 4 of the hub ( don't ask why ) , then using the USB stick you made up from the birdslikewires site when the screen is blank you type some thing like fs1 then enter then fs2 enter etc (this from memory read the guide again )
Good luck
