Breaking free from PC

Hello all

I have recently taken delivery of an O2 Joggler after reading what can be done with it and installing Squeezeplay OS. I have installed Squeezplay OS on an external USB drive, following the instructions on http://birdslikewires.co.uk/articles/squeezeplay-os . I also installed Logitech Media Server (LMS) on my PC as well as Triode Spotify and BBC apps. This is working well, however I am missing one piece of info which I am sure must be out there but I cannot find for the life of me – so please feel free to point me to any pre-written resource (I have searched).

In an ideal world I would be able to access Spotify without having my PC on. Is there a way to do this so that LMS is contained within either my Joggler or the USB stick, or an alternative? I will eventually buy a NAS drive also (not purchased as yet) so would want to be able to access the music that will be on that too. Beyond Spotify / NAS access any extra functionally is purely a bonus for me.

Any assistance in breaking free from having my PC on appreciated.

PS – I believe LMS can be installed on a NAS, but it may be many moons until the finances allow that purchase.

PPS – I am not massively technical so start easy, if you can help.

Cheers

zed,

Welcome to the Joggler forum. This is the Joggler center of the universe; much information here. Enjoy your visit.

You can also install Logitech Media Server on the O2 Joggler per instructions here: http://birdslikewires.co.uk/articles/squeezeplay-os
Additional Features -

Settings > Advanced > Additional Features

-AirPlay
-Logitech Media Server
-Network Mount Point
-Secure Shell
I run LMS concurrent with my MythTV box. They work fine together. The NAS is a different box. They are though on 24/7 today.

Currently also remoting the SP player from the automation mothership which oversees a bunch of stuff in the house.

Sometimes though "she - AKA computer Mothership" has a mind of her own and makes the Joggler do stuff which causes a low WAF (wife acceptance factor).

If you have root access via PuTTY, then an alternative LMS install is:=

Code: Select all

wget http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.8/sc/9913704/logitechmediaserver_7.8.0~1391513846_all.deb

then

dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.8.0~1391513846_all.deb

This will install the latest nightly LMS build - it takes ages to install, so patience is required!

The latest LMS 7.8 builds are always at:

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.8

I've taken to using the nightly builds at the moment - they seem to do what I want them too (access music on my shared storage connected to my router).

Get another Joggler and use it just as a LMS server, connect this to your NAS via your network, or use a NAS on which you can install LMS and just use the Joggler for Squeezeplay.

Anyway, buy another Joggler (you know you want to)

Thanks all, I can confirm that I have LMS now installed on my Joggler.

Pete - It was right beneath my nose!! I knew I had seen it somewhere.

So working to an extent with being able to stream BBC / TuneIn, but getting an error with Spotify....tonights games I think :)

Ronnie - you are a bad influence!

Thanks again

Have you installed Triodes 3rd Party Spotify plugin? If you're using the Joggler as a player it will let you install the Official App but it won't actually work.

Hi

Yeah I have the Triode Spotify app. It worked when I got home from work, but I have been playing with settings so have rebooted a few times, and occasionally received the same error. It has cleared after another reboot though, so I think it is working, just not 100%. If it only requires the occasional reboot then I am happy enough.
