Well, i updated in 3.048 on a clean os. WinSCP works, but it isn't practical to do so.
Thanks you very much for your help.

I added it last Saturday evening so you haven't been missing it for long!
I still think you should add an appendix to your guide with the step by step for installing the openpeak update which you have given on the forum.
Good idea. That may be this weekend's project when I've dealt with this situation...

Just a repair on this occasion - the power jack socket is screwed so it's being treated to a new (i.e. second hand) system board. I could have attempted an unsolder/replacement of the original power socket but quite frankly my time is more valuable to me than the £24 it cost for the motherboard and I don't really have the correct tools or skills (i.e. patience) to do it!
I try not to make a habit of this sort of project, but I do enjoy the curious mix of excitement and fear when you've popped it back together and pressed the power button! Mind you, it'll be held together with gaffer tape if I lose any more screws under the furniture! I seem to lose two each time I've taken it apart to some degree for a little exploration/repair/fiddle.

I think you only need half the screws.
Did the same thing but luckily the power jacket was plug in

Even I know that you're not supposed to use all the screws and have some left over after any assembly or reassembly job. Did you never see Doc Hollywood?

Is there anything I can do to help smooth the jerky iplayer playback on pnpiii? It is watchable but it would be great if I could fix this. I don't have this issue with any other gadget or os. Not a complaint btw!

Hmm. Should be OK with my default settings, but if you are having issues, you can edit the file /media/iPlayer/iPlayer.cgi
You need to go to the line near the bottom containing
Code: Select all
config_settings_bitrateCeiling=1500
and try changing the 1500 for something less - start with 1000 and see what happens. You'll need to restart the app to see the effect. It reduces the quality of the stream.

Hi, new joggler owner here. The joggler I bought was pre update, so installing PnP III was a piece of cake. I set up Sqeezeplay and that too was very straightforward - I'm now seriously happy with my joggler - it's the best £40 I've spent in a long time - even the g/f is impressed!
Just a few niggles.
1) Wifi reception is terrible - but apparently this is a general joggler problem, so now the kitchen has joined the rest of the house and been wired into my home network! Problem solved and probably a better solution anyway.
2) PnP III has a serious amount of stuff that I don't need/want. (awesome work you've done dave, but I think you would have a lot of interest in a stripped down 'media player' version) I've read that you can omit apps by editing a file, and I've also found the file which changes the order of the apps, so this is fairly easy to fix. Is it possible to delete and add files via Telnet rather than messing with the install files and doing several full installs until I'm happy with it?
3) I now have my long list of apps ready to delete, but I need a little advice first:
Sky News / News app - I would like to have a news app, but Sky News seems to be stuck with stories from 2 years ago. The other News app is working, but on that one I find it annoying that there's not a headline page where I can choose which stories to read. If the Sky news app worked then it would be fine as it has the headline feature - I presume it works for some or it wouldn't be included, so how can I make it update? If Sky News can't be fixed is there another News app that I can install which has the headlines feature?
Calender - There's 2 calendars (both seem to be google calendar) Which one should I keep and I also read somewhere that Google calendar is being discontinued?
SFW Launcher - What does this do and will everything be ok if I delete it?
Stock apps - I presume that some apps like 'media' and 'photos' are stock apps. Any problems if I delete these off?

3) I now have my long list of apps ready to delete, but I need a little advice first:
As noted earlier, the Sky News and Sky Sports News apps now appear to have finally stopped working.

They should have ceased May 2012 but hung on gamely until August, hence the reason they are still present and haven't been removed yet.
Regarding deleting apps - have a trawl through the posts in this thread - I think it's somewhere between p20 and 30! I'll add it to the first post when I get time.
1) Wifi reception is terrible - but apparently this is a general joggler problem
So others have said, although I find the reception better than that of other appliances in my house and it isn't a problem here.

Perhaps there are different versions of the receiver in Jogglers.

Perhaps. I won't be doing this myself as the primary aim of PnP III is to set up my family of 6 Jogglers quickly to my own preferences!
SFW Launcher - What does this do and will everything be ok if I delete it?
SWF Launcher is a useful way of running flash apps and some shell scripts.
Stock apps - I presume that some apps like 'media' and 'photos' are stock apps. Any problems if I delete these off?
Shouldn't be a problem at all as far as I can tell.

I changed the setting as you said and went as low as 900 but sadly for me it made no difference - jerky but watchable. I have set it back at 1500. Thanks for trying!

I know there are different ratings for wireless N devices which I think the Joggler has
Would changing the wireless adapter first of all work with regards to drivers in PNPIII and if so would be likely to help the above issue .
Has anybody tried the above by any chance ?

I have had a Joggler for a couple of weeks now and it has been a steep but enjoyable learning curve. Having installed PnP111 and much appreciated the fantastic achievement of this community, I was rudely awakened to a frozen O2 screen yesterday. I have managed to reflash the original Openpeak software and added PnP111 again, so I am thankfully back to normal again. I understand that the internal flash memory is quite fickle and prone to wearing out so can forsee the possibility of having to go through this on a regular basis which is not ideal.
I understand that this might be preventable if I booted from USB. I have done some searching on this forum but have failed to find a step by step guide to creating a USB stick which will launch the Openpeak OS together with PnP111 upgrade. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction?

Unfortunately the Openpeak software can't be run from a stick, only alternative OSes like Android, JoliOS, Mint, SqueezeplayOS, Ubuntu etc.

What is it that stops the stock OS booting from a stick? It is based on ubuntu I think and that works

Is it something that could be done with work or is it a total no go

It would be good

Any ideas as to what OS would be most appropriate with PnP111 and that would give similar level of functionality? How could PnP111 be "coupled" to this OS on the stick?

I'm only repeating what I've read on the forum. I'll see if I can find the info and add the link to this post later.
---EDIT---
Found an answer from Roobarb (to a question by me) on this thread
http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... 440&p=7340
It appears we couldn't run the stock OS from a stick unless we had the kernel sources. We'd then need to compile a bespoke kernel with the necessary modules for boot. Never say never, but it's probably not likely.
