Aha!! Did that and it's now working with the Sandisk Cruzer - many thanks! :D

One more Q - I want to use the USB stick permanently (after fixing inside) so do I now need to do something with it using gparted to make the whole stick available for LMS logs, etc ?
Concerned as I don't want the joggler to fall over again part way through the LMS scan and also want it to be resilient going forward.
If so what do I need to do and how do I do it?

Thanks again.

2GB should be more than enough for your memory stick of you're using a NAS, you would really only need more if you were storing media files locally on the USB. My own installation is running well on a 2GB stick. You could also delete old log files from the USB stick via ssh or WinSCP if you needed to. Once you have Squeezeplay OS set up the way you want it I strongly recommend making a backup of the disk image to your PC using win32diskimager in case the stick gets corrupted in future.

If you want to use gparted to change your partition sizes you can find a tutorial here http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/gparted.html

Even though you mount the whole share you can then drill down in the LMS Web interface to select the my music folder.
If you want to use the UPNP/DNLA feature then I would add sub folders separately, you can have more than 1 folder location in LMS, when you've used the 2 that show a 3rd will reappear. Then tick just the type of files. You can even have the same location twice I think but for the different media types. Each location then has its own rescan button as well as the main one at the bottom. So if you just want to rescan after adding music you can click next to the music location and get a much quicker scan. I've not found a limit to the number of locations yet and have had 4 set.

From memory yes you should expand the partition as the image doesn't use the full capacity. If you have a Linux PC this is very easy with GParted. You can also get a live CD or Live USB version from the address in my previous post which basically boots your PC to a cut down Linux. If you use an existing Linux pc you may need to un mount the stick in Linux before gparted will work. If you've already set some stuff up I'd probably suggest using win32discimage to back up the stick just in case before you muck about with partitions.

Edit: If it helps heres a screen shot, as you can I've mounted share as /mnt/share but just chosen the TV and Movies subfolders seperately with just the video option ticked, the folders have spaces and it works perfectly

The SqPOS image doesn't take up the whole stick so you either need to expand the partition on your stick, or you may be able to add another fat32 partition.
To expand the partition you can get a bootable gparted image from gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php or use gparted on a Linux pc
That sounds really great as the stick is 32g...but a bit (lot) beyond my extremely limited capabilites. :)

Jimbob, dwl99 - pleased to report I now have LMS running on Joggler with 4GB usb stick installed with SqPOS.
Have successfully pointed it at music held on ethernet-connected LaCie NAS drive.
Everything is scanned and indexed and other jogglers running PnPIII can see it and are working fine.
Am a very happy bunny and can return to whatever it was I used to do before jogglers came into my life - might even spend some time with Mrs F again!

Very many thanks for your assistance.

Awesome glad its all working, other than my NAS being a buffalo your setup sounds just like mine :D Do you have this Joggler connected with Ethernet, probably a good idea being as its your server and it means you could stick the stick (so to speak) inside the case by removing the plug-in wi-fi card Edit: Just read your post again and you have done already
I'd Echo the previous comment about taking a backup, you can use the win32discimage program you used to flash the disc to also take an image as a backup now its all working right

Well I need to crack my Joggler open to retrieve the USB stick and do a backup of my setup anyway so if you give me a couple of days I'll attempt to do you a mini guide if you want.

It should leave you around about 28Gig for your music AND still allow you to remove the stick and use PNP3 for other stuff by powering down and removing the stick. Best of all worlds that way.

Yes it is the same set up.
Everything (jogglers, SqB Touch & NAS) is on ethernet using powerline adaptors and everything is on static IP's via settings on my primary router.
Initially tried wireless but found there were lags causing echo effects when playing on multi-room - could only get worse due to bodies in the hallway during a party!! ;)
Haven't actually put stick on inner usb socket yet, didn't have time last night, but will be doing so after taking a backup image.
Have already split one open to connect more tidily a Behringer UCA202 which I have seen referred to in your discussions elsewhere re DAC's etc. - for info I can second "gegs" comments, they are an excellent piece of kit for the money.
I use them with all 3 of my jogglers (including the kitchen one you can see on "upside down joggler" thread).

Once again, many thanks for your help.

If you can face it, a mini guide would be wonderful (& not just for me, I suspect). Can i please take advantage of your generosity & beg that it's written for the village idiot. I'm really not joking when I say i'm a complete novice (but absolutely willing to give it a go)! Thank you. :D

After a good few months of flawless operation my Joggler setup has developed the dreaded skipping, as it did before I switched over to SqPOS. I hope someone can help me get to the bottom of it.

I have two Jogglers, both running SqPOS latest version, with one running LMS. Both are installed on the flash memory, not USB.

I have a NAS (Zyxel NSA 310) that has all of my local music collection on it which I share to the LMS Joggler using SMB and CIFS. I have also had it setup using NFS and had the same issues.

I use the triode Spotify plugin a lot, with my Spotify premium account.

I also stream BBC radio, using the triode BBC iPlayer plugin.

All three of these sources now give me skipping (with ensuing rebuffering in the case of BBC). The skipping can occur anything up to two or three times a minute, at its worst. The skips can be anything from 0.5 seconds to 5 seconds long. As mentioned above, I had no issues with skipping for the first few months of this setup. Which was also the case for my old, Native OS setup.

[Another bug that I am experiencing, which may be a red herring and totally unrelated, is that when one track finishes and the next begins, the playing joggler UI continues to display the old track name. This cause confusion in the UI when fast forwarding or rewinding. It also seems to take an age (~8s to move from track n to track n+1, at the end of track n)]

I know that there was an issue with log file build up on the Native OS version. Could something simialr be happening to SqPOS. How do I go about diagnosing this?

Please help, because if this all goes tits up, the Jogglers will be banished for good by she who must be appeased. Probably with good reason, if truth be told...
Oh dear, I was hoping for a bit more help than this. Shucks.

Going by the advice on the previous page, would moving my LMS install onto internal USB be a good idea? Can I do this with a dd command? If so, could someone help me with what that command should be?

So - cracked open Joggler; removed wireless card; installed USB stick with SqPOS & LMS; had a test fire-up to check everything working - yes, OK; closed Joggler; moved it to desired final location in dining room; fired her up - nothing, absolutely, bl##dy nothing, just the O2 black screen of death......, left it for 1/2 hr, unplugged it, replugged it, left it some more, etc. Nothing. Just stuck on O2 with a black screen.
Back to square one.
Tonight's project, new stick, edit settings again, re-scan library, etc, etc.
Don't we all just love Jogglers?

Mumsnet? Yuk!

Joking apart, it has just done the same thing with a totally different usb.
Here are the symptoms:
Booted it up (ethernet cable attached, USB stick in internal port), loaded SqPOS, start-up page selected "English" which it then couldn't find, killed the power after 20 mins of rotating circle.
On reboot, stuck at O2 on a black background.
Took out USB and it boots ok into stock O2 which is loaded on internal memory so joggler itself not bricked.
Re-inserted USB, boot up still sticks at O2 on black.

Think I will try following tonight:
Reflash internal memory to stock O2 just in case something is interfering from there.
Insert newly prepared (3rd) usb stick and see where I get to....

Has anyone any comments/suggestions re above.
It was working perfectly yesterday from side port before I moved it to internal.
Do I need to edit anything to make it boot from internal rather than side usb port?
Do I need to edit anything on usb stick so it isn't bricked if the power is killed for any reason?
Come on guys any other ideas??? !!! :?:

I would go for trying it with a newly-flashed USB stick in the internal port. It just seems like the right thing to do.

This morning I set up one Joggler with the SqueezePlay OS. Worked fine. Great application. Thanks Andy!!!

A while back I purchased those little mini HP sticks thinking that they would make great little USB sticks for the Joggler. I have a few today that have RW failures on them. Even a reformat isn't fixing them.

That said it sounds more like a bad stick than anything else.

Sounds like you have already gone starting with the least invasive methods first. Keep at it.

Guessing you have:
1 - used a different memory stick and have written the original O2 OS back and all was well.
2 - swapped USB ports - outside to the inside one - now stuck at an O2 prompt - gone back to the Original O2 OS and all is well?

I think that Andy's newest flash script does the granular formatting and "scrubbing" of the internal memory before it writes to the flash.

How does the PNPIII Squeeze player work for you? I have the setup on another Joggler and it works fine.

Reflashed Joggler internal memory - chose PnPIII 3.048, just to be different!
Had stock O2 on it before and I wanted to get away from that in case was causing black screen in some way; also thought at least it would have something useful on it if it bricked another stick!
Fired up on internal to PnP, all OK.
Then inserted brand new stick (the 3rd so far, 8GB) flashed with SqPOS 1.07 into internal port - case is still open so easy to do.
Successfully booted into Squeezeplay and was able to register, enable SSH & LMS, etc.
Putty'ed in from laptop and edited fstab etc to point it at NAS drive.
It is now happily scanning away.
Next hurdles will be shutdown, closure of case and relocation to desired final location - unfortunately that involves a power-off which is where it all went pear-shaped before.
Fingers crossed!!!
My concern is how to properly power down; wondering if something doesn't get written to the internal stick correctly if power is interupted in a disorderly fashion, eg power cut.
Is that what is stopping it from coming back to life on re-boot???

I have historically / repeatedly unplugged my Joggler while booting and that has trashed the internal flash. Many times because I watch it boot and think its taking too long. I think the first time I installed PnPIII I interupted it while it was doing its thing and messed up the OS a bit.

I leave my Joggler on and sleeping when running SqueezePlay OS for Joggler. You could shut it down via the menu then put a tiny toggle switch in the back connected to the power leads. You don't have a whole bunch of room though. I would pick the left side behind the WLAN card where you can see though the case holes for a mico mini toggle switch.

pete_c - yes, think you are right, my impatience probably trashed the sticks by pulling the power out during boot.
However there really is no alternative if it has got stuck (and been stuck for 1/2 hr +++, etc). - I left it on overnight and it was never going to come up.
Frustrating that I haven't worked out what it is that it's waiting for before it can continue with boot, ie what is causing it to freeze.

No need for a power switch; once I've got it stable in it's final location, I won't be switching it off!!
Re backup sticks, I'm going to create an identical stick to keep as a backup - can then put that in external socket of one of my other jogglers as a temporary fix if internal stick in SqPOS/LMS joggler ever bricks again.

Like you, think PnPIII is excellent; have that on the others but need one with SqPOS/LMS so I don't have to have laptop running all the time.

Cheers!
