better than ? i mean it runs with no problems here. very slight tearing on some video, but hardly noticeable. working vaapi for some formats too. I use xbmc on linux to watch film/tv in the bedroom most days.

strange, as there shouldn't be any difference, so long as the other versions are on the same emgd drivers etc and also have the throttle temp increased.

yeah i thought it was strange too, as all are based os's are ubuntu based, maybe its just a case of my brain thinking its faster than it actually is lol

Although the software and hardware to run XBMC may be the same on Ubuntu and JoliOS, could it perhaps be that default start-up programs are different? (i.e. less background processes running by default on JoliOS).

I doubt that would affect it once it is loaded. I mean there are some background tasks that use a fair bit of cpu, but once they are finished ..

I did plenty of testing of xbmc on ubuntu, and never noticed anything wrong with it.

I also run XBMC on Ubuntu and it is great, but I run it from a portable hard drive which is pretty fast anyway. Maybe USB stick read/write speeds could be a factor but I suspect, as danfoshizzle says, he just thinks it's faster because he likes JoliOS.

Thanks for the help out on this one, i guess i am going to go for the thermal trip point increase , but i am a bit wary in case i brick my prized toy ...
When the instructions say open a terminal and ssh in to joggler , this is done from another pc isn't it, and not from within ubuntu or similar on the joggler itself ?

Yeehaa,
FYI i have just increased the thermal trip limits to 80 as per the instructions in the wiki and my joggler has just been given a triple bypass, i can now use xbmc (on BUZZs ubuntu image) with no problems tried streaming video too over wifi and that seems pretty good too.
I can only assume my joggler was being throttled almost at boot up causing xbmc to be unusable.
For anybody who hasn't done this change yet i can totally recommend it, thanks guys for all the help .

Its not only xbmc that benefits either, You will find the whole linux experience improves

I can 'third' that - setting 'thermal.psv=80' should be the first thing anyone does after popping one of BuZz's builds on a USB stick.

BTW, I agree with BuZz not making this a default; you never know when someone might have a less tolerant Joggler and get cross.

Yeah I agree this shouldnt be default, too risky but most jogglers are fine with it, even with those plastic heatsinks lol
