I've got 2 of them now, hard to hate a Joggler.

It's a 1GB VHD with a 200MB EFI partition and about 250MB free space on the NTFS partition. 7z file is 174MB. I'll get it stress tested now that it all works, but I don't think it'll have any trouble. The stress test will be the same as the other Jogglers, automated browsing websites with flash content, multiple youtube pages, that kind of thing. I held off installing System Scheduler until I had imaged it.

I thought the error that was generating the popup could be a problem with the driver database - Event log lists those errors too.

Oh and I added VNC (password joggler) and changed the PC name to FOSHIZ-MINI. My Documents is shared and accessible on the network. When prompted for authorisation it's Username administrator Password joggler :)

Yes here; only added what Mevi added above (VNC), dot net stuff, Java and Flash.

No speech stuff or IE etc. ( I have too many things talking now in the house). I do have the garage TS doing an Italian TTS now. (also french and portuguese - trying to see if wife absorbs any of it). lol....

I like the mini browser application.

I did update it a bit yesterday and rebooted it; wouldn't go back to the built in LAN though until I cold booted it late yesterday. If I do this whole POE thing and have the POE switch on a UPS then the Jogglers will never shut down; so it'll (NIC thing) be a moot issue.

I didn't see a way to reduce the video memory footprint yet; still see a bit of the "herringbone" video with HD stuff; kind of reminiscent of the first gen XP versions.

I've never managed to re-image the internal flash, though I've read that others have - they said it's slooooooooow. I've had a go, but mini tool wasn't able to create more than one partition - need 2 for this to work, of course. Does anyone know a partition manager that works? Winimage32 always reported that the destination drive was too small, no matter what the size of the image was. In the end, I used it to put the EFI partition on for a while.

I used Ubuntu NR and Gparted with a tinyXP that I built but I could not get it to boot past loading the drivers
Oh and it did work off a 1gb USB stick, come to think of it, I wonder if I waited long enough being as it is so slow.

I have just tried WinXP fundemental, exactly the same as you (Mevi & Dan), the axact same image in virtual box boots without EFI but when I use efi in VB does the same as on the joggler, loads everything up to imapi.sys and stops

Here too Easeus Partition Manager, WinImage, Partition Guru works, WinDD OK; looks to be a mini tools twin. My favorite though is GParted. I've not had any issues copying or resizing the partitions from one stick to another.

Not sure how it would work on the internal flash. I'd be afraid; I trashed mine already last week writing this and that such that I had to reflash it.

I've tended to disregard the internal flash as it seems to be the main cause for all these faulty customer returns appearing on eBay. I didn't even bother reflashing the 3 faulty ones I bought. Would have been nice to have removable storage like Pete's chumbys, but there you go.

Why can't you have removable storage? If you boot from a stick attached to a USB hub, you can save to (or load files from) another stick. A powered hub will also allow the use of most removable hard drives.

I boot Ubuntu from a removable drive and have set up a large FAT32 partition as a samba share for media files. The Joggler makes a pretty good NAS and because the media share is FAT 32, the drive can be removed - when the Joggler is powered down - and read by other devices, like my Blu-Ray player.

Is none of this possible with Foshiz mini?

You can do pretty much anything externally; but then you have a bigger footprint.

I've had no issues booting the Joggler from a little Zif connected 30Gb Hard drive. Ideally though if I could fit it inside of the Joggler it would be even nicer. Zif drives are getting thinner; so maybe in the not to distant future you can just stick on right on the pata connector?

You can though just velcro the drive to the back of the joggler and run a little mini USB cable and solder it to the back of the motherboard would also work. A powered hub (I've tried a few) for whatever reason does wierd stuff; like it seems to power the Joggler screen when nothing is plugged in; I would be careful with using one; for fear that it could damage the Joggler. If you removed one speaker behind the motherboard you could also put a mini USB hub inside of the Joggler and use that?

Clumsy me; I fried a 2.5" 1 Tb drive the other night; playing with an external PS on it. Geez it took all of less than 3 seconds to smoke it. (literally).

The Chumby has a miniSD card inside of it with the base OS. It came with a 2Gb one and I replaced it with a 6Gb one. I could have put the chrooted Linux OS inside; but instead I go to a 2 Gb CF card plugged into the side of it and have one USB to NIC dongle in the back of it. I don't really notice the speed or rw stuff on the MiniSD nor have I seen any affects yet as two of the Chumbys still work fine after almost a year (one died a couple of months ago). That said it runs a base X windows just fine at 800Mhz (ARM CPU); but that's really about all. Best on the Chumby OS would be to utilize their custom flash application and just DIY your own flash applications instead of using the "cloud". The Seagate Dockstar/PogoPlug/Sheeva with a 1.2Ghz CPU actually runs circles around the Chumby with a Mimo USB monitor plugged into it.

On a side note I have a Patriot Box Office mini NMT which I chrooted. It does all kinds of stuff and it has a 1TB 2.5 inch drive inside of it. No monitor but HDMI / analogue video out. I can do all kinds of stuff with it either with direct connects or via the network with a 1900X1200 1080 display; very custom chipset though and base kernel MM OS (realtek).

If you wanted removable storage you could add a sd card reader the joggler, this could even be run from the internal usb port and run out of the back with usb extension , speed should not be an issue then and it would keep the footprint small enough. That way you have removable storage and still have the side port for peripherals/wifi.

Just an idea

Sorry, I think we have crossed wires. I was talking about the internal flash storage that the factory OS is written to. It's not removeable/replaceable like the chumby's. You'll find that Foshiz Mini or any of the other XP builds can do most of what you'd expect of it. I personally use a Joggler running my Build 3, installed on an external HDD and tversity sharing media around the house for other devices like the kids XBOX and the atom HTPC in the bedroom. It's next to the satellite feed to the house, so I'm going to press another joggler into use as a front end for streaming satellite TV across the network. I have the tuner already, but not used it before now as it doesn't work with W7.

Alles klar!

I was going to try a TVersity setup like yours for the Xbox 360, but Microsoft's recent re-positioning of the Xbox as a media hub, rather than just a games console, has probably saved me the bother. They now have Youtube, Lovefilm player, Netflix, Muzu, Daily Motion, MSN Video, blinkbox, Demand 5 and 4OD on the Xbox (with Crackle, Screenrush, Vevo and iPlayer still to come). That more or less takes care of the family's video needs, along with NAS streaming from the Joggler to the Xbox and (hacked) Apple TV2.

I also utilize Tversity/Playon TV on a separate box dedicated to just streaming. My two Tivos (satellite and SA) are totally modded and I can stream video and change channels etc with the current operating configs. I don't even watch OTA or broadband cable these days. (I do have that too in the house - WAF thing)

I'm not into watching/listening any broadcast media though anymore (even my satellite radio in the cars isn't worth listening too these days with so many advertisements). I do have a friend there who has a show on the BBC now and she sends me tapes/MP3's of her shows that I will listen too occasionally.

The TVersity/Playon TV box (running on a very small footprint core duo) actually has no storage though and streams in network via a NAS. I've not run TVersity on the Joggler; wondering how that works for you Mevi?

The Joggler would work fine as a streaming media hub. It would be nice to get more internal memory or use some kind of retro fit in place of what is already there.

Did not know about all the updated content for the Xbox 360, once they have iPlayer up and running I will have to go out and pick up a cheap hdmi one!

The kids only play games and watch movies on the xbox - we have LoveFilm here, but they seem disinterested or overwhelmed by the choice of movies to stream. They'll sit and watch something family orientated with us on the htpc, though. DVDs ripped to .mpg will play fine on the xbox. I used to keep iso files, but the kids don't care about menus or special features and it was only the pc or the little cyclone that plays them. For the living room, I've dug out a retired xbox elite which has a busted DVD drive. It works ok with the hddvd drive but it's a bit of a kludge with cables galore.

On the htpc, I use Hide My Ass and another VPN to stream free US catch-up TV like on xfinity or hulu. No premium content until I work out how to fox them with some kind of local payment. ;)
