One last thing.. The only thing that I did notice is long press for right mouse button does not work.

pastebin the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log and I'll help you to get it working - we just need to match the touchscreen device name differently.

Just thought it would be interesting also to try a Ubuntu Mobile edition on the Jogglers. I think it would be a perfect device for it. Should be easy to make a image for it now.

ubuntu mobile edition is dead/unsupported though although they have something planned in the coming years - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Mobile

My usb thumb drive died, so I installed the latest build (xubuntu 11.10 02/09/2012) on it. After 1-2 days WLAN stopps with:

I have googled for it and all point to the Ralink driver. I have experienced this problem with some Ubuntu 10.xx release before. I think that I then switched to your Ubuntu 10.10 release and had no problems so far.

Does someone also have wirless issues?

you could try the in kernel driver -

edit /etc/modprobe.d/joggler.cnf

where it has

# if one driver is problematic, consider switching
blacklist rt2800usb

uncomment blacklist rt2870sta and comment out blacklist rt2800usb. then do

and reboot.

@BuZs: Thank you, using the rt2800usb module solved the problem. WiFi is stable since 2 days and no error messages in syslog any more.

That's strange - I always found the opposite to be true as well. Used the latest Ubuntu release recently and got the best results with the vendor driver. Although, to be honest, I didn't run it for days at a time - just around five hours a stretch.

I get longer than that here with the vendor driver. has been connected even for a week+. Maybe it is dependant on router, and signal quality etc - dunno. The vendor driver isn't what I would call good though - so hopefully the in kernel driver will continue to improve.

Hi, I just like to say thank you to Buzz and everyone else who has contributed to this forum. It has helped me turn my £50 investment into one of my favourite gadgets.

I'm a long term reader but first time poster. I have pretty limited knowledge of linux but followed many guides on here and now have my Joggler running exactly as I like it. Almost!!

I currently run Buzz's Xubuntu 11.10 image, mainly running native spotify, xbmc for videos stored on my NAS and for live TV through the TV links app and other on-demand services. I have tried several OS's inclusing XP, JoliOS and Ubuntu 11.10 and have found Xubuntu to be the most stable and responsive for my uses.

I just have a couple of issues which I was hoping others may be able to help me with.

Bluetooth, I would love to use a Keysonic bluetooth keyboard that I have with the system but have had no joy. Using Bluetooth Manager, the joggler finds the keyboard but fails to pair with the keyboard everytime, the same goes for my android phone and bluetooth stereo. I've read that they may be some kind of issue with Xubuntu and bluetooth, can anyone shed some light on this or know of a workaround.

Secondly, I currently use Rhythmbox to play all of my audio which is stored on my NAS as XBMC can be a bit laggy when scrolling through music folders. However I would love to be able to play these files through the native Linux Spotify program however I cannot see the network or my NAS in the sources list in the Spotify preferences. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I would appreciate any kind of help or advice, thanks for your time in advance.

I'd like to thank BuZz too for the great work he has done on the Linux distros for the Joggler and also for helping the Joggler community. Your also doing some great stuff for the "retro" computing world too - I'm really looking forward to try out some of my favourite C64 games, Suicide Express and Uridium on a "Jogglerdore 64" (hopefully the Joggler will run VICE ok).

I've been using Ubuntu 11.10 and XUbuntu 11.10 for a few days now on the Joggler. I do a software update as soon as I get the initial image booted and accept all the offered updates. I install a few other apps - sometimes these seem to take a very long time to install, maybe 10-15 mins. After this, pretty much all the times I have tried, when I shut down Ubuntu/XUbuntu it seems to hang on shut down - i.e. the shut down screen is shown and stays on, even if leaving it for half an hour or more. The normal process, I have seen at times when the process seems to go ok, is that the Joggler's screen goes blank, like it has been turned off.

Is there some way I could find out what is happening at shut down and what may be causing it ? If have have made changes during the session, then these seem to be stored, even though I am forced to power off the Joggler when it appears to be hung in a shutting down state.

it's the graphics drivers crashing. maybe better with future emgd updates. actually the last driver seems to corrupt the framebuffer also.

How would I go about disabling long press for right-click within Ubuntu? I predominantly use my Joggler for SqueezePlay, and this behaviour prevents the context menu's from appearing.

roobarb! has informed me that he believes a config file within /etc/X11 determines this, but I've not been able to find which file to edit.

comment out or move /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-buttonemulation.conf or change the timing so it doesn't interfere with squeezeplay.

A better change would be to make squeezeplay use a right click for context menus, and then you have best of both worlds.

Hi All,

I have noticed my Joggler running Buzzs Ubuntu 11.10 gets slower over a period of time when browseing.... It seems to freeze a lot. And when left for a few minutes it gets going again.

Anyone know why? Its really getting to the point where the browsing pleasure is fast diminishing and I get so frustrated waiting for it to catch up. Sometimes its writes waiting for cache on screen other times it totally freezes (ie the cursor wont even move!)

Is there something I can run that clears the thing so thst its afresh?

Hi, have you done the increase the thermal trip point fix as per wiki instructions?
This solved my issues very similar to your own.
Apart from that you could try another USB stick as it may be on it's way out, or just a faster stick even.
Others have also installed on to an external hdd which speeds things up as well.
