Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
To be quite honest, I put it on last minute. I quickly checked that it worked and made my images. I need to put aside some time to have a go with it.
I've begun work on XPe (under 200MB installed!!) and got it booting as far as mup.sys - it hangs at that point before that half screen corruption. VGA.SYS and the other patched files are in place. I recall you were getting the same problem with your current build, what was it you did to get it booting? I'm hoping that I won't need to lose internal memory, as that's where I plan to try putting it.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Great news Mevi.
Personally mine would freeze there if I left the NIC plugged in. If I removed the NIC it would boot fine. I would sit and watch the LED blinking. If it got to the 1/2 screen and the LED kept blinking; it was booting; if the LED stopped blinking then I knew it had locked up.
I noticed an odd boot sequence with the newest Joggler. It keeps repeating the INT section with the same line a few times before proceeding. First time I have seen this. Once booted (Dan's XP3) then all is OK.
Another thing I noticed is that the capacitance screen is way more receptive than the resistive screen. I have a Liliput 8" resistive screen next to the Joggler. The touch on the resistive screen is not nearly as nice as on the Joggler. Response times are also better with the capacitance screen. Attached is a combo moving map that you can play with. You can drag the map, close in or out on it...but its kind of a neat test for the touch screen. Similiar to doing the hand jestures on the Android, WMobile or Apple. Will post the html as soon as I find it. Its very old and primitive; still using it. Stick it on your apache server.
The blue stuff is snow BTW. Windy and cold here today.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
My problem was with drivers not installing for the chipset in the end.
And when I did have a week or so at trying to get embedded to boot, no matter what I tried it would not boot always would hang at Mup.sys.
Ialso tried legacy PC, as that is a fork of xpe just with an installer, that would hang tooin exactly the same place. I cant explain why sorry mate

Great stuff thank you for for all the hard work gone in to this build
xbmc running sweet , tried rocketdock, looking good , very cool on such a small screen.Much appreciated.

Happy Joggling
Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
I forgot to mention Rocket Dock. I had it on this build for a couple of days before turning it off and going back to desktop shortcuts. Rocket dock is nice, only for me it was requiring a couple of taps to launch an app - one to select, one to launch. Looks good though, you're right.
Pete, I'm sure there must be different HW and/or FW to have this much variation from one joggler to the next. Bizarre.
It is sure to be a driver problem stopping XPe to stall at that stage. I have found that if I screw up a driver install, I can kill all future boots from going past that point.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
@ Mevi
Could you use an 'AutoIt v3' Script for this? When booting off freshly created USB devices, the disk driver needs to be updated in Device Manager. Choose the driver from a list and select DISK WITH PAGE FILE. When prompted for the location, browse to c:\windows\system32\drivers - once installed and you have restarted Windows then reconfigure your page file. You will still need to do this. Not fixed. I hope to be able to release a patch for this problem. Once set, it will not need to be done again.
Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Yes; odd; some of mine worked out of the box (pagefile) and some didn't. The patch mentioned always worked.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
No, your builds are fine. I made the unfortunate decision to go with a different disk driver for pagefile support on USB media. It's great, but needs manual intervention on each new device.danfoshizzle wrote:Does the disk driver install need to be done on my builds aswell?
I'll switch back to USBoot's method, I think, as it's built in.
Once XPe is booting and set up nicely, I'll release that too along with anything else I get working.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Dan, I'm working on a new display driver using Intel's tools. Don't go to any trouble digging out that other one.
I hope to have a new display driver and a fix for the diskmod.sys out soon. If I can fix the audio, that would be good too. I'll replace the Build 2 with a revised Build 2.1.
I'll post a quick how-to for people who don't want to wait for Build 2.1.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Mevi,
Downloaded and installed your newest image on an 8Gb stick. I'm currently at 4 Jogglers testing various "stuff". Most likely "retiring" Chumbys; one died a few days ago unexplicably. They have bigger screens but slower CPUs (800Mhz Arm).
Powered off previous build leaving Gb NIC cable plugged in. Booted right into the network. Loaded a bunch of devices and asked for a reboot. I rebooted it. Very nice. I started using the bgi thing a few days back; cuz I personally starting to lose track of what I had on what Joggler.
1st cold boot using an 8Gb memory stick and leaving Gb NIC plugged in. Booted right up into the network and loaded a few drivers; then requested a warm boot.
2nd warm boot. Froze on the Mup.sys 1/2 screen thing. (drive quit flashing - thinking its the NIC thing).
2nd cold boot after it loaded the drivers - boots fine into OS and quickly - waited a couple of minutes then plugged in GB NIC - locked up.
3rd cold boot without GB NIC plugged in - boots fine and fast into OS and quickly as before - plugged in NIC after a few minutes - froze.
4th cold boot without GB NIC plugged in - boots fine and fast - didn't plug in Gb Nic; just played and warm booted it.
Just playing right now. Calibration works fine. Squeezeplay also works fine.
Very nice!

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Pete, that's really really odd. I will put a delayed reboot command into my startup folder and see how many times I can reboot in a row whilst connected. I haven't had mine lock up on a reboot with ethernet plugged in.
For anyone who hasn't already found it, BGInfo is what puts the system details onto the desktop. A scheduled task runs at startup and when the system is idle. If you edit c:\program files\bginfo\mevi.bgi, you can display whatever you like.

Oh, pete.... do you have static IP addresses? The one time I can remember locking up with a cabled NIC was when I set a static address. I was busy building, rebuilding and testing and didn't think much of it at the time.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Actually drifted a bit for the last few minutes to play with a jb'd Ipad. ...sorry...
I use static IP addressing and my DHCP scope is 1-2 IPs only. I never really got a chance to assign an IP; just kept rebooting and playing a bit.
I did go to the Squeeze setup. It didn't find an IP (cuz it wasn't on the network); warm rebooted it and it took about 20 minutes to load XP.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Thanks for the new build Mevi. Besides the boot time being faster, the entire OS is far slower on all my USB keys unfortunately. I disabled themes and a few things which definitely helped but it still read the key far more often.
So, I'm back to the old build but boot times are longer due to the scrolling "node" pages that I see during boot (which isn't in your new build). Do you happen to know what this is and how I can remove/rectify this in your old build?
Thanks!

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
I left it without the NIC plugged in for a bit. Just plugged the GbNic cable in and it did its DHCP thing right away.
Will put it on a USB SSD stick in the next few minutes. (have a small collection now of the USB SSD sticks here).
I don't an issue with the speed (compared to previous version) on a Kingston 8 Gb stick right now.

Re: BUILD 2 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Replace all the files in the root of the build 1 EFI partition with the ones in the build 2 EFI partion NOHUB folder - it's an older version of the boot. It's quicker, but you can't boot from a hub.
You'll be able to warm boot build 1 with those files.
The Tablet PC additions and their required .NET installation added 1GB to the installation's size. The plan is to bring Build 1 up to date as far as functionality is concerned, fix the major problems with Build 1 and Build 2 and leave it there for full-fat HDD/SSD windows. Dan and I have quite different views of what Windows can be on the Joggler, but I think that adds flavour!
For my own personal project, I'm trying to get an install of XPe (which is still hanging on drivers mid boot) running from internal flash memory. A read only copy of XPe is my preference, but I'm just about to try a really small version of XP to test the concept. I won't release to here in case it shags the flash memory, not without a lot of testing anyway.
