Buzz, just to double check. To flash the EFI, I would need to telnet into the offending joggler, download the EFI you posted, then run the following commands:

modprobe fh
dd if=/path/to/some/file of=/dev/fh count=1 bs=1024k

Does that sound right, or have I missed something?

That looks right. some file is the one you downloaded which you need to copy to the joggler of course (put it on a usb stick or something or scp it). I would confirm with uploader md5sum of said file, so you can make sure you have it intact.

This is the md5sum generated for the efi file I downloaded, is it correct?

One last thing before I try flashing the EFI.

What are the chances this will actually fix the problem, and what are the chances that I'll brick the joggler? At the moment the joggler does boot into it's native OD just fine, but I can't get it to boot other OS's of a USB. If there is a only a small chance that flashing the EFI will fix the problem, and a high chance I'll brick the joggler, then I'd probably be better off leaving well enough alone.

Thoughts?

if your joggler is an o2 joggler and you flash with an o2 efi, it should be fine. ive done it myself. i cant promise it will fix your problem, but it shouldn't brick it. worst case, you get another joggler, swap efi's reflash and resell, but so long as the flash writes ok it should be good. I'm not responsible though ;-)

I've flashed an Opeanpeak labelled Joggler with the O2 version without issue despite the fact that there ARE hardware differences (As seen in Windows).

I got a bit nervous about to reflashing the EFI , so I decided to go through the 6 different brands of USB sticks I have and try each of the various OS's on them and see if any would boot. In hindsight, I've only been trying to get an Android image to boot on the O2 joggler, because that seems to be the image that do most of what I want.

Anyway, the first USB stick I tried had Mevi's latest Windows build on it.... Wouldn't you know it, booted first time on the O2 joggler. I really didn't expect that. Then I read back the previous posts in this topic and saw matbro51's post, that said:

"I wonder if there might be different EFI versions, even between 'O2' branded Jogglers as I have never been able to get a Windows build to boot with any USB sticks I have, while Ubuntu/Adnroid builds are fine."

So it seems I have completely the opposite setup to matbro51. The O2 joggler will only boot from a USB stick without Android.

Is it still worth flashing the EFI on the O2 joggler in order to get Android to run on it?

I tried one of the ubumtu images, and it didn't boot. The joggler hung on the same screen that I posted a screenshot of earlier in this thread.

Just a quick note to add that I've just flashed the efi of a very troublesome Openpeak joggler with the efi kindly made available on this thread (Joggler kept refusing to boot from it's own memory or its usb port and needed the hub/keyboard approach every time). It changed the boot logo to the O2 one and initial signs are that the problem has been fixed. Thanks! That's Joggler 6 working properly!

I'll just add for what it's worth, my other 3 Openpeak Jogglers have all had booting/haze issues at different stages in their lives, whilst the 2 that were purchased with O2 boot logos have been rock solid and have never had any problems whatsoever. May be coincidence though!
