Apologies; its nothing like doing a low level format or anything with GParted. I just wipe the partitions and reformat them a couple of times. I also do a check of each partition after I finish. In the GUI Ubuntu GParted application there are drop downs on the title bar for all of the functions. Looks like you already did that anyways.

Just be careful and make sure you are making changes to the memory stick and not the boot partition. In Microsoft too you can utilize Mini Tools (free) to do the same as gegs mentions.

If you do have low level partition errors there a few "free" low level memory stick tools out there in internetlandia.

I'll see similiar weird stuff playing with different writes / write methodologies on the USB sticks.

mikeywilliams, I have seen that; but alway going from one OS to another playing with the home office desktop Joggler; its all taped together right now with painter's masking tape and a bunch of wires hanging out from its guts; looks to be like a Frankenstein experiement.

PnP Mk II is wonderful. Many thanks for all the work put into it.
Much of the time tho it is being used in effect as a radio controlled clock. Unfortunately after a while the clock goes dim (both the normal screensaver and when squeezeplay is running). I cannot find any setting which stops this happening.
Have I missed it?
Have a dim memory some time back of there being some modification to change this dimming behaviour - but what it was and whether it would work on the new dispensation not even the mighty google has revealed.

Have a look at the simple webserver via a browser. It's usually at something like 192.168.2.xx or whatever the Joggler's IP is. Try the autodimming option there. Not sure if it works as was from original PnP.

Well blow me down - I'm still a noob (at 73).
I had given up on the webserver as I had been trying from my PC and my iPad and neither would connect. So tried using the browser on the joggler and there it was - and the dimming option works perfectly.

OK I'm giving it another go today - doing a full format on the USB stick rather than a quick one - but it gives me different options - NTFS, FAT, FAT32 and exFAT ..... which one should I be doing?

I think I'm going to have to give up ... gutted. I've done the reflash, given it my details, got the wireless networking working. Completely reformatted two different memory sticks and ejected them. Downloaded a fresh version of the PnpII software, extracted it to the stick, put the stick in the Joggler, plugged in the power ..... the light on the stick flashes on and off for about 30 seconds (so the Joggler must be reading it) but then it boots into the stock OS. It just doesn't seem to boot from the USB at all (though the stick worked fine when it had the reflash software on it)

There was something about another way to do it, by telnetting in - what exactly is it I would need to copy and paste, and where? (Or have I misunderstood this?)

So a different step by step. I've included the pictures. If you have copied the unzipped files over to the memory stick and do not see then then stop here and recheck your steps.

Phase I (an edit per say - will try this on another Joggler to test) - NOTE: If you are not familiar or have never done this be careful and note the disclaimers posted related to doing this to your Joggler.

1 - Reflash Joggler to original O2 OS such that you have a stock Joggler

2 - register Joggler

Phase II

1 - put your memory stick in your Wintel box USB port.
2 - format the stick using the "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" (see pics 1 & 2)
3 - Unzip the downloaded files to a temporary directory. I used 7 zip.
4 - validate initially that all of the files are in the temporary directory (look at pic #3)
5 - manually highlight all of the files and do a copy and paste over to the memory stick. (look at pic #4)

Stop here if you do not see the files on the memory stick.

Do you see the files?

6 - boot up the Joggler to the regular Joggler O2 OS
7 - put the memory stick in the Joggler. The LED (if you have one on the stick) should flash.

Stop here if it doesn't flash

8 - go to the Photos widget and hit the USB icon. The LED light will flash. You should see pictures of the icons / widgets on the memory stick.

Stop here if you don't see the photos on the memory stick.

9 - If you get this far then the Joggler is recognizing the USB stick with the files that you copied over.

Just a thought: are the files in the root of the USB stick or in a folder called "PnP Mk II Public v2.12p". I only mention this because one of my zip utilities by default unzips to a folder the same name as the zip file. If this is the case, move all the contents of the folder to the root of the stick.

I'm sorry you're having such trouble, it worked a treat for me. Try to beg or borrow USB sticks from a friend and try again; it's worth it.

The old PnP Squeezebox Server and Squeezeplay files are no longer available for install. The web interface says it has installed but it doesn't work.

I just rebooted with the above created stick. It did install the Squeezebox server as I tried the widget and went through the configuration files; so it looks like it worked for me using the OP's (offbeatdave's) posted link.

So I did a cold boot with the above configured stick and it ran and installed PNP2.

Wondering here though if you can see all of the files on the root via windows that you copied over to the stick. If you can then maybe its some modification to the original O2 OS that is preventing the script from running when you reboot.

I can only say that I had the same problems as chelseagirl until I did everything in the correct order (reflash, register then install) and only then when I used the new v2.12p file. The earlier version didn't install some things (Squeezeplay being one of them) even though it seemed to work for other people. The newest PNP2 worked like a dream without any of my previous problems and I have installed it now on both of my Jogglers. Logitech Media Server has the correct permissions "out of the box" to add and edit Squeezebox plugins, without any of that 'chown' command stuff necessary with PnP1.

1 - flash the Joggler with the "repair" to flash boot stick such that its running the original O2 OS from scratch via:

OK this is what I've done:

Reflashed the Joggler with the birdslikewires app
Rebooted the Joggler - native OS
Registered my name etc and set up wired and wireless connection
Formatted the memory stick (a Kingston DataTraveler G3 4GB) using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool v2.2.3 (screenshot 1)
Downloaded the PNP2 files into my Downloads folder
Unzipped using 7z into the root of the USB stick
Powered down the Joggler, inserted the stick, powered up
and .....

Maybe it was the HP format thing that did the trick (because everything else is the same as I've done half a million times already) but when it rebooted it came up with the white on black O2 logo rather than the native OS ..... so I think I'm getting somewhere!

I'm sorry to hear people are having problems! I wish I knew what else to suggest but everyone else has said what I would have said. It'll be no consolation to chelseagirl when I say that this week I've reinstalled the current version on all 6 of my households Jogglers (o2 and openpeak versions) with no problems. Very odd.

No consolation needed ... it works!! Looks fab - just getting Spotify on there and i'll be a very happy bunny. Depending on how stable it is I might even pick up a second one to give to my mum - she really likes mine but up till now it's always been a bit flaky.

I'm sorry to hear people are having problems!.

I don't think people are having problems with PnP2 as such, I think the problem is probably with their USB sticks, perhaps some with old boot partitions that haven't been formatted properly etc.

As chelseagirl mentions, when the stick is formatted properly, using the right tools, PnP2 installs without a hitch.

Some of Jogglers will be running PnP MkII, others will be running XP, Android ICS and Ubuntu.

Quick psot about Squeezeplayer - all my music is on a NAS drive and when i search for music on the web-based Squeezeplayer server it only lets me search files on the Joggler itself - is there a way to play the NAS drive through Squeezeplayer? (I know I can do the Connect and Play but it would be good to have it all together!)
