Dan,

Just that the Joggler XP "Obi Wan"; you; gave us a new mini XP build is really what counts.

While writing installed the aquarium screensaver...thinking this Joggler (on the desk) should go to FL...thinking of connecting it to a new weather station destined for FL.

sorry, away from the forum for a day or two. So were the .exe associations broken on just the repackaged IMG I uploaded, or was that all down to .net? Hate to think that I put people out in any way. :(

I'm always happy to see a new XP build, too. :) I try out most of the Linux, android and XP installs. Not yet tried Mijuu's Meego port. That looks really good, but downloading from China takes an age.

the meego is not very good imho, Not too sure as nobody has mentioned it since, I have had no problems installing stuff myself,

I also try every new build out, its what led me to buy a joggler in the first place, the amount of work people put in to the joggler world is unreal, I myself have whittled away many hours tinkering with windows so I know lol

The issue with installing/running programs was due to the missing Windows Installer 4.5 as well as any version of .net. Once installed everything is flawless and I've finally retired Your (Mevi) version 1 XP build.

Regarding Meego, don't bother... It's barely usable as the touchscreen works sporadically, you can't right click (which is used ALOT), and it didn't scale to the 7" screen causing a lot of scrolling and missing characters.

I honestly don't know what I did to get my going without the program issues. I did install Windows Installer 4.5 and dot net and I think I finally did a cleaning of the registry and and this and that regedits.

I haven't added anything else. Should I upload the VHD?

I can't read the stick anymore with a USB image maker; wait I forgot how to read the USB stick with the imagemaker. (lol age thing)

oh yeah...forgot...Dan...the fish are seeing the lines again....I don't know though if anyone else uses the Aquarium screensaver (from media center) though...

VHD's it and zipped it; but now its 2.5 Gb. .....but I moved it to an 8Gb stick. Maybe removing the pagefile and shrinking the partition will work to make it smaller.

Thanks Dan.

I didn't look. I didn't add anything but VNC; but I did move the entire image over to an 8 Gb stick and created a 3rd NTFS partition for the pagefile.

Today I will shrink down the partition to the original size you had it set to.

I got this working from a hdd connected directly to a joggler - the os looks fantastic!

One issue, I tried running it on the same hdd from a unpowered hub. It started to boot, but then loaded the stock os instead. I've loaded a few xp builds from the same hdd on the same unpowered hub previously without issue. Can anybody offer any advice? Is it any more likely to run from a powered hub?

Do other ports on the hub work? The bootloader is dead fussy about hubs. :P

Pete and anyone else who might be interested in making your own build, I have written a 'how-to' for making your own build of Windows XP/ Server 2003 from scratch. You can find it on the wiki here: http://www.jogglerwiki.com/wiki/WindowsXP

It's a bit wordy, but I've included screen shots of my method of doing things. I'd like it if someone else read through it to see if it makes sense. I wrote it with the assumption that you'll have decent PC skills, but are a Joggler newbie. :D

Mevi,

Very nice. I will read and try to make a build.

Hawsey,

I will take Dan's last build with the O2 stuff added and shrink it down to to the same or similiar size that Dan had it at. All I did was add the touchscreen stuff and let it load the drivers...

Here's Dan's build in IMG format from a 4Gb stick. The actual OS is much smaller than the Zipped image file. I couldn't find any 2 Gb sticks around; but it'll fit on that too. Let me know if these links work out. Its one file split 6 times. Once unzipped its still 3.9 Gb.

This is a great installation and am using it with a full screen Squeezeplay. Any ideas though how I can get the backlight to turn off after a certain amount of inactivity? I use it in a bedroom and don't want to see the backlight shining through at night.

Thanks!

Many thanks - I'd tried a couple of hubs then gave up. Went back to try the third and forth and it worked on the third :-)

Has anyone manaed to get Logitech / Squeezebox server to work on this build? It installs ok, but when you try and run it, it turns itself off after a few seconds. I've had this problem with another windows build on the joggler - but it worked on another joggler windows build.

Fantastic work btw, loving it :-)
