Skype

Post by tmohammad »

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone has managed to place skyp on their joggler. It would be an ideal situation for me as the joggler sits next to the TV and evryone could use it.

I have Buzz'z Ubuntu 11.10 on my joggler but when I search for skype from unbuntu software, its there but when I try to install it gives some sort of error like its not in my package?

Also, can standard PC webcams be used with the joggler?

Thans all in avannce for making the joggler a super tool.

I don't know enough about Linux to offer help with your install error (Skype may depend on other packages being installed first?), but I've found that the XP builds seem to run most things.... within reason. You're not gonna get it to run Crysis. :D

In addition to Windows or Linux drivers, the webcam will need to have an integrated usb mic, not just a pink 3.5mm jack, as the Joggler doesn't have a mic port of it's own, short of soldering one onto the mainboard.

OK, so I managed to install skype and the audio side of it works. I cant get the video to work. I have a webcam with a integrated mic. The mic works but cant get the camera to show anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt it is a joggler specific issue, so it's probably worth asking over at the ubuntu forums. I have used a webcam with built in mic on mine though before (with skype).

Hi Buzz,

Mines is a Webcam with a built in mic too. The mic works yet the camera does not. It seems to get recognised by the system as when I pull the usb plug out it fails to appear in the webcam list in skype settings. When I hit test, it does not pull any video though.

I'm glad that yours worked as that would imply that the one I am using is either incompatible or is broke! Which webcam did you use successfully?

Regards
