Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
Hi everyone.
UPDATE: this driver still exhibits the same digital fizz, only that it's not constant.
Delko on the Chinese Hi-PDA forum posted these edited XP drivers for the Sigmatel chipset - the speakers can be disabled without the annoying digital fizz that previous attempts have had. I've only re-packaged the drivers in an english language named zip file and added some of the Windows files that you may be prompted to provide from the SP3 install disk.
Also in the package are a pair of reg files that disable / enable the speakers on my XP SP3 build 3. Due to the location in the registry, if you want to do something similar in a different build, e.g. Dan's, you will need to find the correct location in the registry and edit the reg file to suit. An easy way to find it is to search for a registry key called GPIO.
Example below:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0011]

Wondering if the joggler detects a 3.5mm plugged in, as if it did, could we set a command to launch the registry file upon plugging in headphones?

Re: Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
Hi Mevi Im getting a digital fuzz on the Joggle speaker after I've used the reg to disable it?
Re: Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
Motoko, are you using it on a virgin build 3? I didn't test it on earlier builds as I've retired them, also if you have reinstalled the driver at any point since imaging, then the location of the registry entries may have changed.... maybe
. Installing the full driver should cure that buzz (did on mine), but the process is a bit more complicated.
Right click 'my computer' and select 'device manager'
(If using the touch screen, go to control panel/system/click the hardware tab and click device manager.).
expand sound devices and right click the Sigmatel entry and select update driver.
(With a touchscreen, click to highlight the entry and click the update button at the top - it's the same icon you see on the system tray when new hardware is found.)
Answer no to check online, answer no to automatically search and click to chose the driver.
On the next screen, click 'have disk' and browse to the location of the driver in the WDM folder and then follow the prompts to load any extra files that I included in the zip file.
Phew, I think that's all, but if you're familiar with installing drivers, you'll find your way through.

Yup on your build 3. I installed the drivers as you mentioned, then ran the reg file but I still get the awful buzz on the internal speaker when i play music
Re: Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
If you install the driver, you shouldn't then need the reg file. The reg file is to be used instead of installing a driver on build 3. Do you have an Open Peak Joggler?

OK, the digital fizz plays only when music is playing. Damn it! Back to the Chinese forums. I'll update when I can.

Re: Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
No, wasn't you, I didn't test it thoroughly enough. oops.
No luck in China. Delko has said that he doesn't have enough free time to pursue this further.
Going back to the Linux sound patch to see if I can extract the settings needed. I'm not a coder, but I think I see how it works and where to try copying and pasting the hex codes from.

Re: Audio driver for XP/W2003 to disable internal speakers
Yeah, this would have been great. The 'pin' settings in the XP registry seem to match up with some of the settings in the linux driver settings. I'll have a play over the next day or two.
