Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
Hi I've just signed up to netflix trial on my ps3!
on my joggler I usually run ubuntu but know it won't work on that due to silverlight drm
does it work ok on any of the other builds?
in my experience web based streaming is pretty poor - xbmc does much better - so i'm guessing it will have a low frame rate?
but if anyone can suggest otherwise i might write other my xubuntu build and give it a try!
cheers,
James

Re: Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
Lemme fire up one of my builds and I'll try it out. I signed up just a few days after it launched in the UK and haven't done much else but watch movies.
I'll let you know shortly.
What I'll add is that nearly all my movies and tv are streamed online, either lovefilm, BBC iplayer, itv, US tv and movies with a VPN and hulu/xfinity and now UK netflix. I watch it all on a nvidia ion with a dual core atom 1.6, the kids use the Wii and the xbox too. I get occasional dropped frames or buffeting, but it's good most of the time. My router connects at around 4 meg, but the contention ratio on my 'up to 20mb' sky broadband is only 20:1, I think.

Using XP. Well i didn't watch all the movies. I played part of 'midnight meatlocker' which played smoothly. The one scene I watched was set in a diner and there wasn't much movement in that scene - framerate was good with occasional skips. Watching the opening credits of 'Ghost in the Shell 3' with a lot of camera movement fast editing and the framerate drops quite a bit.... i wouldn't consider that watchable. Both played better when not fullscreen.... Not a buffering problem as the sound continued uninterrupted. I don't get good framerate with high resolution Youtube either. Perhaps the HW acceleration in Silverlight and Flash isn't good on the GMA500.

Re: Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
thanks for testing! i should have been clearer... i find streaming video via a web browser cuts frames e.g. iplayer, itv player.
I have a bought a number of cheap eee pcs off ebay and installed ubuntu on and given to family members and they have a similar atom processor to the joggler and streaming iplayer via firefox or chrome is normally poor to average (though much better than windows!)
but if you use xbmc for some reason it is great! I guess the fault therefore lies with flash. i wanted to know if silverlight had similar problems...
similarly, i find sopcast sports streaming better than browser based flash sites
will try one of the xp builds now!
i see there are 2? xp professional and foshiz mini? i downloaded the first one as reading the second one seemed to imply it was still been tested?
thanks again for all your help!

Re: Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
Was it one of my SP3+tabletPC? I managed to squeeze a lot into that little black box.
Build 1 is lighter on resources, but you'd need to tweak it after setting it up as there were problems with that one that were fixed in the later builds. If you read the early posts on that thread, you'll see what the fixes were.
Is your cabled network OK, or do you get an exclamation mark against the NIC in device manager? I've thought about collecting serial numbers to see if there's a range of serials that has the NIC problem in Windows. Not that we would be any nearer a fix. :O
Dan's still rebuilding Foshiz Mini, but expect a faster build than mine.

Re: Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
Hi Mevi!
I originally downloaded 10.11.11 which was superfast but no sound! I didn't try cabled connection, only wifi. From what I remember there were 5 errors when I went to add/remove hardware. They all seemed related to audio and codecs. Don't remember anything about NIC.
The new version is so impressive! It boots so fast and software is working well! Xbmc is giving very good quality video streaming. I always associate windows with long boot time and slow performance and partly as a result of joggler started dabbling with ubuntu.
One I'm currently running is **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)** 16.12.11.
I remember in the forums there was debate about turning off the internal speakers when using headphone socket. I have mine connected to pair of speakers so would be great if there is a way round that. Perhaps it's already in the 31 pages of that forum in which case I humbly apologise!

Foshiz mini still in the pipes once I have my graphics card sorted, should be fast stable and very usable!

Re: Anyone tried netflix on android or windows?
I thought I had gotten rid of any exclamation marks (aside from the NIC) in all the builds. Surprised there was no sound at all in Build 1. I would think that right clicking and updating the driver would cure that. Do you have a O2 or Openpeak logo on boot?
The headphones not muting is one of the long standing problems with XP. The makers of the audio chipset went out of business and there are no more *official* drivers for it - the old ones only output sound to the speakers when patched. Seems to be a grassroots movement to keep it working on Vista and W7, but no longer for XP.
There is the un-patched driver you could use... the speakers won't work, only the headphones output sound, but the speakers then have a continuous low level digital fizz which is hella annoying. You'll find a link to the unpatched driver here: http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... =500#p5682
and the SP3 files you'll you'll be prompted for to install them on your joggler here: http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... =500#p5707
I'm tempted to just clip the speaker wires on one of mine.
I can always crimp on some spades onto the ends of the cables so I can re-connect later on.
It's only XP that has this problem, by the way. Joggler OS, Linux and Android are fine as I recall, but no Netflix.
