Sonos Controller app via Android OS??

First post.. probably daft question but my search drew a blank...

I got a Joggler like many others when O2 had them at bargain bucket prices... mine has basically sat unused since its initial play with it...
I kept and eye on the internet for developments in the modifications as I'm not really up to doing the ground work myself

I now have a possible use for it as a Sonos controller.
Sonos have and App on the Android Market to allow you to control the Audio system.
Not having to go and find the Ipad/Iphone or giving Sonos £230 for the bespoke controller sounds good to me...

Has anybody tried the Sonos Contoller app on an Android Joggler?

If not Ill give it a go.. I have a 8GB USB stick on order Lacie MosKeyto

Should make the need to hack about the internals for aesthetic reasons superfluous

How do I add external apps to the android? can you just pull them off the market like on the phone and see what works and what does not??
Any guidance is appreciated

Just try installing them from Market. Some apps do not appear in Market as it thinks that the Joggler is incompatible but it's always worth installing them on a proper Android phone or tablet, getting the apk & trying sideloading it onto the Joggler via Dropbox. It usually works.

so just grab the apk off the phone and file transfer it to the joggler...

Well the Android 1.2.3 build could not be easier to install, many thanks to everybody who made that easy for me...

The official Sonos app does not appear in the marketplace, so I emailed it myself the .apk and collected it of my gmail account on the Joggler in an attempt to load it... its starts the install but ultimately ends with a message something like "the app has not installed"
I'm assuming I will get the same outcome if I dump it in the app repository pre boot, but I'm yet to try that as I'm having difficulty writing to the EXT partition from a win7 machine... time to break out the Ubuntu Live CD I feel!

On an Upside the an unofficial "Sonos Widget" seems to work ok, but its a bit clunky.. but i dont think this is the fault of the Joggler.. more the fact that its a widget!

Have you tryed it on ICS to see if its any different m8?

oc1rob, it's likely that the Sonos software is compiled only for the ARM processor right now. There are very few x86 android devices and unless they're using the new compiler it only produces ARM compatible code by default.

@Verg0 - not not tried ICS as I really dont know enough about it or anything or anything else Android related, will give it a go when someone has sorted the ICS into an easy boot load USB

@manxam - that makes sense... when I log into the market place it tells me what devices I have and when I pick an app it says good or no good shockingly it says no go alongside the sonos...

Sorry to revive this old thread but it still comes top of a Google search. I thought that I would update it in case anyone else stumbles across it.

I have just jumped ship from Squeezebox to Sonos and would now like to utilise the 3 Jogglers I have. Options I have considered:
1. Run Windows XP on it and then run the Sonos desktop controller. All fine except this thread says that the desktop controller is not usable at 800 x480.
2. Run one of the ubuntu images and then run AndroVM in it. It would probably work but it seems kind of complicated way to do it and I can't imagine that it would run at an acceptable speed. However, I must admit I haven't yet tried it.
3. Get the Houdini running with Android ICS on the Joggler. This thread seems to have an almost working, but no Libhoudini, so no ARM Sonos running on it... This option seems to be most promising. Jazzmista does say at the bottom of page 16 that he will try to add it, but it looks like this project has been dragging on for a year or so now.
4. Bluestacks emulation - Tried this. Managed to install the app but it couldn't find my CONNECT
5. Windroy emulation - Looks promising but doesn't work on Windows XP.

That's it... now the decision is whether to hold onto the 3 jogglers and wait until someone gets Android + houdini working properly or cut my losses and flog them on ebay...

A further update on this for those that stumble across this old thread:

The ICS 4.04 image from http://www.mporting.com/category/android/ works quite well. Importantly this image does include the Houdini libs that are required to run ARM apps such as Sonos, so in short: It works!

However, it doesn't give a great user experience. The system is quite slow and there are reduced number of colours (and probably no graphical acceleration). The Sonos app is usable, but the relatively low-res screen on the Joggler begins to show its weaknesses.

In addition, my wife uses the clock screensaver feature of SqueezePlay (the clock appears after 30 seconds of inactivity) and this functionality it difficult to replicate with ICS. Jelly Bean includes the daydream feature that does allow a perfect replacement, but there is no image for JB yet for the Joggler.

Not that it really helps anyone here but I have been playing around with the Nexus 7 2012 instead and it gives a much, much better experience (especially if you use the official dock in landscape mode). The downside? It's 3-4 times the cost of what you can pick up a Joggler on ebay for now!
