Need to remove PnP, please help!!!

Post by chelseagirl »

OK after spending hours yesterday working with PnP tp get the Spotify anf BBC feeds to work properly on Squeezeplayer, I now need to know how to tke PnP off completely or revert my Joggler to former state ..... can someone please tell me how to do this? Reason is that th normal (well, pimped) Lounge Radio now plays all stations at double speed ..... the radio is the reason I have my Joggler, without that I may as well thrown the damn thing away!!!

Going to try Joli now. I had PMJ initially, then Jogtools nd that did everything I wanted. Only installed the PnP thing because I was excited about having Spotify in the kitchen, need to get the most from my £10 a month subscription!! But now I can't listen to radio FiveLive without it sounding like Pinky and Perky have taken over!

Ah, just realised my memory stick is only 1GB, sop have ordered 4GB one and will try Joli OS when it arrives.
Have also discovered that the radio issue is due to the sound card option being set to Internal Sound rather than Internal Sound + Mixer. Switched to the other one and yippee 5 live works again!! So will leave PnP on there and hope I can find a way to use the BBC stream at some point!

You can use Squeezeplay & add Radio Time as a Squeezeplay app - this will allow you to stream any BBC station & many others besides!

I can do that anyway using the pimped Lounge app! It's the listen again feature I'd like to get working - and spotify, of course.

You can also add Podcast Player as a Squeezeplay app - would that be any use?

EDIT - I just looked & there is now a Spotify app for Squeezeplay! So you should be sorted!

the windows spotify client runs on jolios - and it has xbmc which does well for iplayer (tv and radio). it also has squeezeplay - but jolios it is more complex to use in general than the built in os (but way more functional)

To use Spotify and BBC channels on Squeezeplay you need to install Squeezebox Server too. You can install Squeezebox Server on a PC or a NAS but if it is installed on the Joggler you only need to have the Joggler and your router switched on, nothing else.

After installing the server you need to Telnet or SSH into your Joggler and run the following command:

chown -R squeezeboxserver:squeezeboxserver /media/gforums/apps/squeezeboxserver-7.6.0-31297

The above command is also mentioned on the Squeezebox Server installation page in P'n'P. It allows you to add plugins to Squeezeplay and save them.

Next go to your PC and type:

http://joggler-ip-address:9000!

Obviously "joggler-ip-address" is your real IP address which you can get from the Joggler's "Settings" > "Network" page. You are best to assign your Joggler a static IP in your router's settings to enable you to bookmark the Squeezebox Server web interface, otherwise you will find that the "joggler-ip-address" bit of the above URL will change periodically.

You will then need to enter your Squeezebox.com user name and password (register for free first if you don't have these). The next pages will ask where you store your music files or playlists; I don't store these on my Joggler so I just ignore these and hit "Next" (or "forward"... I can't remember exactly what the button says). When you finish installation the web server interface should appear. Make sure that Squeezeplay is running on the Joggler and it should recognise the device (default name: Squeezeplay) and it should appear somewhere near the top right of the web interface.

Next, click on the "settings" link at the bottom right of the web interface; a page with multiple tabs across the top should appear.
Click on the "Plugins" tab. Scroll to the bottom of the plugins page and tick the 3rd Party Plugins box then click "Apply" - ignore the warning box that appears and click continue. More plugins should now appear on the list.

Click the "BBC iPlayer" plugin, the "BBC iPlayer Extras" plugin and the "3rd Party Triode Spotify" plugin. Click "Apply", click on "Restart Server" and wait a couple of minutes for the server to restart. The plugins you've chosen should now appear at the top of the list but they won't be enabled. Click the boxes next to each new plugin, scroll down and click "Apply" again. Wait a minute or two for the server to restart.

Now click on the "Advanced" tab (next to the "plugins" one at the top of the page). On the left of the page there should be a drop-down that expands when you click on it. Choose BBC iPlayer from the list and in the iplayer options choose AAC streams, not WMA.

Now click on Spotify from the drop-down list. A page will appear with a disclaimer and an "I agree" tick box; tick the box and then "Apply". The next page will allow you to add your Spotify account user name and password. Make sure to choose United Kingdom from the list of countries (defaults to Afghanistan) and select the quality of the stream. Apply the settings and you should now have BBC iPlayer, iPlayer Extras and Spotify available and playable in Squeezeplay. They will be on the "Internet Radio" page but you can move them to the home page if you hold your finger over the item until the black info box appears then "Move to Home Page". They will be placed at the bottom but you can hold your finger over them again and this time choose "Move to top".

This took me ages to find out, with lots of trial and error, but I now have two Jogglers with working BBC channels and Spotify, one of which is hooked up to my hi-fi. When you find a station you like, tap the button at the top right of the Joggler Squeezeplay display and choose "Add to Favourites".

I hope the above ramble made sense and the instructions work for you.

Squeezeplay is so good that I never use the Live Lounge app for listening to radio anymore.

All makes perfect sense and is in fact exactly what I've done - except I either don't have the icons showing on my Joggler, i can't get them to stick in the Squeezebox server webpage, or they do actually show on the Joggler but they appear to play but have no sound! And added to that the squeezebox server keeps altering the selected soundcard so the radio doesn't play through the lounge properly anyway! Aaargh!!!

Have wasted far too much time on this now so will stick with what I've got I think, but thanks for the help :) Think maybe there was a problem with my installation of the PnP core files which is affecting it all, and of course there doesn't appear to be a way to remove them.

Have you tried setting the "internal sound" option (rather than "USB soundcard) on Plug'n'Pimp? It requires a re-boot but it might correct your sound problems.

Also, in Squeezeplay itself you might need to change the library settings to "atom" rather than "squeezebox.com". This will pick up the settings from the Joggler's server rather than those from the squeezebox.com website. The BBC iPlayer plugins and the Triode Spotify plugins aren't available from squeezebox.com and any changes to your Squeezebox Server won't show in your player until you have chosen the correct library. This problem had me foxed at first.

I would definitely, as already suggested in this forum, download one of BuZz's images and load it to a USB stick using Win32DiskImager.

People have suggested JoliOS but I find this a bit annoying because Squeezeplay is in a Local Apps folder (if you remember to add it) whereas it is right there on the Desktop on the Ubuntu Maverick or Linux Mint images. You can Google "Squeezebox Server" from Ubuntu or Linux Mint and install the deb file. You'll need to authenticate by using the root password to install it, which is the super-secure "joggler". Once installed on Ubuntu/Mint/JoliOS there is none of that "chown" command nonsense in Plug'n'Pimp - it just works.

Use my plugin enabling instructions from an earlier post to get Spotify and BBC working. I have them working on the O2 interface and on Ubuntu and it is well worth the perseverance.

Thanks gegs .... the soundcard does indeed seem to be the problem with the BBC feed on the Lounge - seems it doesn't like the internal soundcard but prefers the internal soundcard+mixer. So at least that bit's solved!

The atom thing sounds like it's worth a go (because I've done everything else that's been suggested, several times!!) ..... but where do I find the setting?

I can't quite remember how I changed to the atom library. only that I did.

It's probably either in Settings > Advanced > Networking or maybe in "Registration" then try the options there, which are "SN Registration", "SN playerReset" or "Factory Reset Settings and Quit". The last option should enable you to register the player again (Choose language etc.) and it might allow you to choose the library.

Sorry I can't be more helpful with this but it was quite a while since I got it working. I don't want to run through the process again unless I screw up my own settings.

Think I might have found the problem ..... Squeezebox Server can't actually see my Joggler! According the the PnP dashboard the server is installed but on the server dashboard the top right bit says Choose server ... your server was not found.
Gah so frustrating!!!

Gegs, you're a star!!!! I did the reset, that is where you choose squeezebox or atom. Cant say I ever remember seeing that bit before. Anyway, as soon as I did that the joggler appeared in the squeezebox server, I added the third party bits and it all works. I now have working BBC iplayer and working SPotify on my Joggler. Going to bed way later than planned but very happy, thanks!!!!!!!

Glad you have it sorted. Still hoping I can lure you (and others) to the dark side (ie. alternative os').

makes me think though, if the o2 joggler had been "pimped" pre-sale the device might have sold like hotcakes. they really had a massive fail on the os side of things. shame really, and although we enjoy our £50 jogglers I guess it could have been so much more.

Glad to be of help.

I would agree with BuZz though that it is good to run your system off a stick, especially if you are only interested in Squeezeplay and XBMC. There's less chance of wearing out your Joggler's internal memory and if you download the Joggler OS disk images to a stick, you have a way of restoring your Joggler to "out of the box" condition should the standard Joggler software go "belly up".

Although Squeezeplay is great on the standard O2 software I have found that it freezes occasionally, forcing a re-boot. Squeezeplay running from a stick seems to be more stable (at least for me).

Also, although P'n'P has iPlayer live channels, XBMC has that plus the on demand stuff. You can also download the TVcatchup plugin and have most live UK channels playing through your Joggler. The Navi-X plugin is also highly recommended and has loads of film and TV content (although it is less stable than the iPlayer and TVcatchup plugins and crashes occasionally).

I do want to give linux a go, definitely. In fact, I'm just waiting for a 4GB USB stick to arrive as the biggest I had was 1GB! So with that in mind ..... which is the best version to use? Presumably not Jolicloud! Are there simple idiot proof instructions out there on how to install and set it up?
