WebOS to be open source

Was reading a few articles about the announcement by HP that WebOS would be opensource: http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/09/hp-w ... eup-still/

Think this might sit well on a joggler?

WebOS has actually grown on me a lot - so much so that I haven't yet bothered to put CM7 on it yet. I use my Touchpad mainly for email & browsing the web so the lack of apps doesn't really bother me too much. It's a nice, clean & simple OS. I suppose if the devs get their hands on the kernel that will make ICS that bit closer?

I was hoping that we'd have the same firesale of the HP tablets in the UK as there have been in the US. Shame, I'd pick one up at a good price.

We did - I spent many sleepless nights trying to get one but failed . Wasn't to the same extent as the US ones (£89 for a 16GB) but still really cheap considering the hardware specs.

RE WebOS on the Joggler - I think it might be possible!

No, I haven't gone insane - I remember reading somewhere that HP ran WebOS on the iPad through Mobile Safari as a web app (and it ran twice as fast as on the touchpad ) , therefore meaning that WebOS must be HTML-based in some way. If it is, we could then run the code in a wraparound browser (like Joli OS - which gave me the idea for this). 7 inch screen compatibility shouldn't be an issue as HP were working on a Touchpad Go, which had a 7 inch screen on it.

I'll try and dig up some links about the iPad Mobile Safari tests.

Thoughts?

I like my HP Touchpad. I originally purchased it a month after the original firesale for the firesale price.

I've only OC'd and not as of yet dropped Android on it. Its growing on me as it is. I only use it to surf the web mostly.

For yesterdays HP refurbished Ebay sale I only could get as close as reading about it. I read somewhere that 10,000 units sold in less than 10 minutes.

I do believe that there is room in the market for another Tablet OS out there to compete with both Apple and Android; that's me though.

My Palm roots go back some to the first Treo's in the late 90's with a clip on CDMA piece and only talking GPRS to the internet; what a feat that was back then!

In the 90's though I was watching my shrunken down movies on the tiny screen when flying. I do remember sending out my old Palm Pilot such that I could have the surface mounted memory upgraded some.

Oh yes, it was only shades of grey back then initially.

Really have played only a few times with the Touchpad as I've been mostly playing with the Jogglers. Mostly just sits in its folder or on the HP charging stand...with the clock screen saver running...

I had to go downtown (Chicago about 3 weeks ago); lots of waiting here and there. Surfed on the HPTouch while waiting; beats using the tiny screen on my HTC phone to surf.

Interesting though I sat next to an 85 year old and showed him how easy it was to read the newspaper with the HP Touchpad. Retired and on a budget he stated that it was well priced for the senior population who wanted to purchase a tablet for this or for that.

heh. I don't have a orange SF though. Missus has one instead No acer revo either, another thing I almost bought, but decided to plod on with the old xbox1. Everytime I consider a new HTPC, there is something new around the corner and I decide to wait and see.

Most of my tech is much older. Like Speccy, C64, Amiga, Vectrex and so on

I was considering buying a San Fran, but bought a Galaxy i5800 Apollo instead for half the price and similar spec. I also nearly bought a decent-specced Revo, but then saw sense and bought a "proper" desktop instead!

I do like the look of WebOS, although I haven't played with it much as I haven't got a Pre or a Touchpad (I did try! ).

Back on-topic...
I hope they release the source soon - I'm itching to have a look and see if my HTML source code theory was correct! If it is our job is a lot easier

One of favorite BBS's from many many years ago was called LinuxHacker dot org. It was a repository of much information relating to all kinds of stuff. It went kind of quiet many years ago...

Still buried somewhere is the first Polaroid wireless picture frame. Simple in function; but only paid subscriptions at the time.
