Just noticed that the compression ratio on the VHD is from 50-70%. Very nice. Will post the VHD. I also made an IMG file.

Attached to this message is the EFI partition files. Will post links shortly. Dan, I did notice that after a few boots and reboots I would get errors on the stick. Never seen that before.

Do not know why it errors on a few reboots, does it stop anything working?

So far no. But checking it with disk checkers on Wintel and Linux show that the NTFS partition is getting corrupted. I fixed it the first couple of times then I couldn't after a bit.

I'm going to sleep and just leaving it uploading. It'll be sometime in the morning when I post the links.

Hey, back again. Sorry, needed an early night. 8-)

I did a chkdsk /f on the mounted VHD before imaging, which is an easier and quicker option than chkdsk an imaged USB stick.

I imaged it twice last night, but it broke both times on reboot - plus i had some wierd "Journal Viewer.msi" not found errors that I had to esc out of a dozen times before I could get to the desktop. Google searches suggest that was due to incomplete windows updates. I'm gonna recommend that FlashFire is uninstalled until we can rule out that as a cause for the disk corruption.... perhaps having something caching disk writes when we're installing chipset drivers might be a really wrong thing to do! I can get running it as a virtual machine first, or mounting the and loading the registry hive in regedt32 and stopping Flashfire before we put it on the joggler.

Once everything is installed, perhaps we can then reinstall FlashFire, if there even a need for it. I'm one to sacrifice speed for reliability. I miss my old Toyota Yaris. :D

Pete, how is it running on yours now?

Dan, do you have an earlier stage in the build that you can return to? Don't want to lose this build as it was very quick.

just read on a random forum on my phone that flashfire is known for breaking driver installs!!

so what I will do is rebuild and leave flashfire on the desktop ready to be installed, as that I think is the problem when installing drivers, as On my joggler I have no issues with errors as I installed flashfire last, but note that flashfire does not interfere with usb device as installs, as I have installed numerous devices on this build and have no bad effects, chkdsk does find the squeezeplay folder at fault located at program files/squeezeplay, this will be corrected in the new build,

Also mev, is it just win32time.exe running at start-up? or are you using a speciality script?

Mevi & Dan,

Yes; here it will create disk errors after a bit of running on ZIF HD, USB SSD and flash drive. I though I had bad media initially; or it was me.

The links above do go to a working touchscreen and work with or without a hub; but will create headaches after a day or so.

Sorry for the headaches, but at least we now know that flashfire is not suitable for a pre install, and must be installed after booting.

At least I hope it is that lol

Dan, set up a scheduled task which calls:

c:\windows\system32\w32tm.exe /resync /rediscover

To hide it from the user, schedule it to run without a password as:

NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Schedule it to run at 2 or 3 minutes after midnight, starting from 31/12/2004 and I also have it run at logon, too.

Your box is in the mail, hopefully with you tomorrow. :)

While reading removed FF from build - I don't think though it'll reboot. Shut it down instead.

I did notice FF driver didn't show on reboot and it booted right up into XP. I am eating my own words here. (foot in mouth thing).

Will do a quick checkdisk on it. Looks OK. Booted fast. Rather than a checkdisk using a kind of salvaging MBR type check program which is a bit slower but works fine.

Have to do my Christmas cards (late this year). I say that every year and send them out at the same time every year (last 20 years now).

Mev,

I do internal time sync to an NTP server I have on the home network; so never really utilized Wintel time services or the internet at home.

As I get older time holds less meaning these days for me...lol..age thing I guess....

A timed event as you have specified should do the job though.

I have noticed though I think the touch tablet stuff is a bit mangled (me mangling it - lol) as I cannot do touch stuff as well you your previously posted build. I can though calibrate the screen just fine though.

so, is a rebuild needed? or could i get away with just uninstalling ff and fixing the filesystem errors?

Well, I got a bit carried away....with my personal FFXP build Dan....adding some of Mevi's stuff to your build....sorry about that....

Removed Journal viewer too and was going to re-install the tablet stuff; not totally sure its working right...but none the less right now running a redone on a new NTFS partition FFXP build (your build Dan). Rebooted it a couple of times (warm and cold) and it seems to be OK...but wandering here today...having to think of what to write in the Christmas cards...more work than anything for just one or two sentences....

Its working for me. I could do the same for the build in the link above...takes only a few minutes or so.....always kind of doing different things on different computers so I guess I could ...

So here's what I did to adjust your build so far....

1 - removed FF - rebooted - all looked OK. Touch and boot from HUB works fine. Cleaned up some of the files. Backed up the raw data ....then
2 - personal FFXP build added just a few of Mevi's "stuff" and more of my "stuff" (relating to TTS et al)....
3 - removed Journal for now....saved the raw basic bits of OS/applications/data....wiped old NTFS partition and wrote new one ...so really there is nothing to it.....just some tweaking Dan...

What do you think we should do here?
