Not so much for myself, because I've gotten used to using Putty and WinSCP, but it would have been useful for my brother-in-law when he wanted to install Squeezeplay. I had to do it for him because he was a bit 'phobic' when he saw that it required using the command line.

My brother was interested in getting a joggler when I showed him what mine could do, but he was put off by the idea of using the command line or getting use to a new OS. I offered to set up his machine, but he felt he'd still need to learn quite a bit to manage the machine.
Ideally, there would be a USB installer for all the key extra apps that can be added to the original OS - e.g. latest versions of opera, youtube and iPlayer. I appreciate that could take someone quite a bit of time to do
I know this is a little OT for this thread, but what's the status of Opera these days? Is anyone maintaining it? I'm not even sure of the way to install it.

The version I'm running is Opera Mobile 10.1 from gforums P'n'P on the Stock OS. I don't know how the script installs it or which mobile device platform version is used.

Yes, I'm using it on stock firmware occasionally.
If I'm remember well, to install it, I had just copied Operamobile's files within /media/opt and use your great 'Little App Launcher' application to do the job

Hooray! Someone using it!
I must find time to iron out the web interface a little. It was really just a proof of concept, so it was only tested in Chrome and Safari. That's rather low on the priority list at the moment though. Come to think of that, why on earth am I garnering opinion on a USB installer for SqueezePlay?! I must be crazy.
I'm being lazy today - would someone be able to point me towards the files for Opera?

Does anyone know how to disable the Play part SqueezePlay?
The reason I want to do this, is so that I can run Squeezeslave in the background all the time, and use Squeezeplay purely as a controller. Squeezeslave also gives me the advantage of being able to use an external USB DAC.

I don't have a system to test on right now, but there are options to use SqueezePlay purely as a controller under the Synchronise menus, I believe. Other people have definitely done this, although how they have silenced the output I'm not so sure. You could assign a non-existant audio device in asound.conf (change 'card 0' to 'card 9' for example).
Squeezeslave has some disadvantages over SqueezePlay though - certain file formats won't work through it (I know Spotify is a no-no) and the developer isn't keen on doing much more with it. You know you can use a USB DAC with SqueezePlay?
Took me a little while, but v1.31 is available now. Includes the new asound.conf file, so vanishing audio and chipmunk audio should be a thing of the past. Working well for me - let me know how it goes for you.

Many thanks for your hard work. All good here.
Big thanks to Optik also for work on the asound.conf file.

Given that the Controller doesn't show up on the chose player list in the web UI or the server settings > information screen or the squeezeplay chose player screen when playback is disabled then it might be possible. BUT note that it does show in the controller's chose player screen.
How big an issue is this for you?
It might be possible by hacking round the code - it might even be possible to add a menu option like the controller and add it to the normal build (but again that is likely to sow on the sqp itself) if roobarb! feels it's worth it...

Not having any Squeezebox hardware myself, this is something that I'll be leaving for others to work on.
