start hitting esc as soon as youve plugged in and till about 3 secs after keyboard lights come on.
When you type do it slowly as I've noticed mine misses some key presses if I type fast.

It looks beyond my skills at the moment but i will give it my best shot before crying for help ;)
Do you think a 16gb usb stick would be ok for this or would i be better off getting an external hdd.
Also do you think the keyboard and dongle off my acer revo 3610 would work or will i need a wired one ?
Sorry for all the questions but i am a bit new to all this ( creating a bootable image was an achievment  )
Would love to get this working thx again.
I'm a big fan of hdds with the Joggler. You'd need a keyboard and you won't get a hdd running of an unpowered hub and powered hubs don't always play nice with Jogglers. The revo dongle works well, as I've robbed my one from the htpc a few times. If you don't have a need for the wifi, you could put the keyboard dongle inside the Joggler.

If you buy a decent powered hub they work perfectly, its only the cheap ones that send power back through the joggler when you power down (its happened to me)

Yeah, I'm always looking for a bargain.

I've wondered, if the Joggler was powered by a PSU that delivered more than 4A, there wouldn't be a need for powered hubs. I'll be soldering another one or two USB sockets in one of the Jogglers tomorrow, so I shouldn't need a hub for that one anymore.

Hawsey, it was only a few months ago that I had my first ubuntu boot stick for the Joggler. You will pick it up quickly, I'm sure. There's always someone on here who will be able to help if you get stuck.

Will keep trying here. Mevi; can you take some pictures of your USB socket mods?

I have three powered hubs (cheapos) and they all power back to the Joggler (get a white screen) when I disconnect the power from the Chumby.

Will do, Pete. I'm using 2 USB sockets from a PC expansion slot backplate. I'm not the best with a soldering iron, so it won't be pretty! I'm following the guides in the main jogglerwiki.com site to find the points on the board to solder to (there's a choice of 2 places). I had hoped to bring the USB sockets out to the rear casing, but the socket would be too deep for the Joggler's case. I'll try to mount it at the top of the case opposite the internal socket. Another less invasive method would be to trail the socket out of the Ethernet port - it's the one with the NIC that doesn't start. Once I have everything open in front of me, I'll decide which.

Mevi,

Someone mentioned that they removed one speaker for the space. I do't really think though that's worth doing. I have a small USB hub that I was going to use for the Asus netbook. Aside from the size (its about the same size as the WLAN card) was that it came with an an assortment of very thin wires to USB connectors which are sealed. You could also put in a miniature micro SD slot inside of the Joggler. I played a bit with the Chumby's replacing the internal 2Gb microsd with a 4Gb microsd. I am booting it into linux with x windows right now off a 2Gb CF card; I could though do it all from the inside microSD card. The chumby is an interesting device. It has two USB ports on the back, CF card / SD card slot on the side. Its just an 800Mhz Arm CPU so its a bit slow compared to the Joggler; it does OK though for my needs. I did have one bit the dust yesterday after about 24/7 one year use.

For the multiboot; I was kind of hoping to replace the inside WLAN card with a USB SSD device multibooting the four (O2) OS's from just one device with multiple partitions.

None the less I can just disable the EFI inside and default boot it to Linux or Android to the outside USB I am guessing at this time still allowing for a multiboot means of sorts. (manually).

This would be for my "play" Joggler which I will be leaving on my home office desk.

If you are keeping a usb ssd inside the joggler you can put refit on that, however you still need access to the efi shell to enter it in the nvram.
has anyone seen this before.

Slightly OT but Mick, I found a video of you booting windows from an internal PATA. How well did that work and do you have the efi files necessary to do this?

Thanks!

The internal speakers are horrible. It would be no loss to pull them out. I had thought of doing that, pete.

Something I never thought of trying until today was to plug in headphones... and the speakers don't mute. I'm using the edited driver inf that you posted some months ago.

The usb sockets were too big and the cable too short for me to use. I went for the more cosmetically friendly optioon of bringing a USB extension lead out of the ethernet socket (I had to break the back of the socket to feed it through, with contacts still in place so I hope it still works if I ever get the error 10 thing fixed. I tapped into TP 137 & TP 138, taking power from the internal USB port. I get a flashing light on a flash stick, but Joggler OS doesn't see it and windows saw an unrecognised device on unused port. I soldered onto the processor side, whereas the wiki pictures were from the other side.... so maybe I have the data wires swapped over. Crap. The internal port still powers and boots from USB, so I don't think it's power.

When I booted from the pata port I had the efi partition on a usb stick using xoj-ntldr through grub but windows froze as soon as it had loaded.
There is no pata port driver in the jogglers bios, so to boot windows on its own off that port you need to load a driver first.

Mevi,

I think you are already there with your internal USB to external via the nic port thing...(at least at this time)...confident you've got it working by now.

Interesting mention on the sound jack not shutting off the speakers. I never really tried it.

The sound INF mode came from the "west" and it was added to the W2003 build a while back. There is a long detailed explaination on the hows and whats relating to it. I skimmed over it a bit. Maybe there is something there about the sound jack/speaker thing.

I use and do not use the speakers depending on where the Joggler is sitting. Mostly though related to some speech fonts. The "nightstand" Joggler is becoming a clock radio do all. Needs some major stuff still.

Still digging a bit here for another USB keyboard to try the multiboot.

Thank you mickchip, it's amazing !
I'll test it asap...

Do you think there is any chance to have touch screen for boot selection in the future ?

Failing that has anyone found a mini usb corded keyboard about the same size as the joggler? That would be neat. Or maybee even some sort of butchered keypad or similar with just the keys needed for this ;-)

The only thing I can think of is the joggler starts with numlock on, so check that and type slowly.
I presume you doing this with the multboot files to get refit up and running before trying bootmgr.

must be a problem with the way i am putting the files on the stick, as it responds to a ctrl alt del and typing in fs0:boot blindly boots the o2 os.
