Ok guys I’m back, this project has come on since the last time I was here!
It’s not much but I’ve created a Blank XPE template for The Joggler in Target Designer (no components are installed so you can tailor this to suit your specific needs for the lowest footprint possible)
It makes more sence to create these files than having to download BIG .img files
I Hope to do a bit more than this soon but unfortunately I’ve had other things to do sorry…
Please use this as a foundation to build on if you like...
Is anyone currently attempting to build an XPE image? I've never used/don't have XPe so have no idea where to start. Hope someone else is working on this as I think this is the way to go on the jogglers.
Thanks for the reply Dan. I'd like to use a joggler for a CarPuter but don't want to wait for proper shutdown after off. With XPE I wouldn't need to worry about this...
yeah i see your point, joggler would be a good carputer, the windows images are not corrupted to easily, i force shutdown my jogler occasionaly and it seems ok lol
Fullscreen squeezeplay windows, server 2003, foshiz mini v1 and v2, (and a few broken builds) :P so far.....
more to come!!
How's the Joggler screen look like with full sunlight hitting it? Its not a transreflective LCD as far as I know. Been playing with CarPCs for a bit here.
I tapped into the NAV screens though on both automobiles. Initially many years ago the issue was that of power; so I put a tank battery with a separate charging circuit for power. You can now get a 12VDC always on switched with an Accessory on 12VDC board which would allow for a proper shutdown. That is what I utilize today. For music the Joggler would be a nice HU with some customizations. Just the right size screen.

I'm gonna get my XP build's kinks ironed out and uploaded here before I start on XPe, but I WILL have a go at it. I've no experience yet of XPe and I'm keen to learn.
So, would I be making XPe a read only system? Would that still avoid any drive errors in the event of pulling the power?
If I was to build XPe, I would probably go for a super slimmed down one for fast boot and shutdown with purely a media playback focus. My current XP is built for looks and functionality.
I have currently based CarPC software looking at a second device for media (video, pics and music). The current basic setup could be run in just memory. It could be a read only configuration as its doing very little. Its self contained not requiring much of the OS to run. It was written to run in Ubuntu and XP. My preferences is a simple functional interface with no bells and whistles. I can upload it if there is interest. Just looked and the application is about 18 megs compressed.

Pete, I'm quite interested in your CarPC project. I was looking at Ride Runner but I think it's overkill for my needs.
The only issue that I have with the joggler is boot time: both XP and Xubuntu take a while to boot off of my quite fast flash drive.
There is a replacement shell for XP called Talisman, which has themes for a CarPC - Dan and I have both tried it out and like it, although it is not free. Dan's trying out LiteStep which I recall he was considering putting into his brand new build.
My XP build will be updated in a similar timeframe, but will not likely meet your CarPC needs.
