**BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)**
Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
My install was going well for 2 days, but this morning it had completely hung at 2:04 and after a cold start it just hung on loading one of the acpi drivers (from memory). Have now left it off power for the day and will fire it up again tonight.
Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
There may be a bit of a delay with the multiboot, my 16gb USB stick wiped itself out this morning. I had xp, android and ubuntu all working great, did a shutdown from android, when I restarted nothing would work
so I put the stick in my pc and checked it with gparted. One 15gb fat32 partition. I will try again but it might be a duff kingspec usb ssd.
Think I know what caused it, when using android it said there was a problem with the sd card and it needed formating, I let it format it and I now have one 15gb fat32 partition on my ssd.
I will change my config so that if I am using android the sdcard will be sdb1, a seperate stick.
Android must run from memory this to happen.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
I am not seeing this with your build; just Dan's first XPSp3 build. A quick recap of the three running Jogglers. I shut off the W32time service. I actually don't use w32time with any of the computers in the house. I have a internal to the network time server getting its time from a GPS rather than the internet. I have a GPS antenna mounted on the roof of the house (and in the attic testing another GPS)Pete, you asked about the screen flicker at 3minutes. I have a w32time scheduled task that runs at 3 minutes past midnight to set the time after a cold boot. Seems to coincide with that.
1 - #1 Joggler is running with Dan's first XPsp3. Here the sound drivers have been updated. Running off most current EFI. Warm reboot works OK. With a cold reboot I have to unplug internal NIC then plug it in about 2-3 minutes after OS is up. Using only the internal USB SSD drive and connecting at 1Gb. I've only seen the pixel shift maybe once or twice with this version. I haven't noticed a Touchscreen shift. This one shows an odd screen flicker after about 3 minutes of the OS being loaded. Its not sitting on my desk anymore. Its become a "nightstand" Joggler with an interface to the house; controlling lights, security cams, clock radio, HD movie player, etc of sorts for the time being. Its replaced the 3.5" Chumby that was on my nightstand that ran mostly a flash HA application and other Chumby flash aps (but modified some with Python, XPL, etc running stuff from a LAMP server connected to it).
2 - #2 Joggler is running with Mevi's XPsp3. Same EFI as Joggler #1. I left the USB WLAN card inside and its running off an 8Gb memory stick. I've left it alone in another room in the house. Running fine at the moment; haven't shut it down now in a few days. Running via NIC at 1Gb. No pixel shift, no flicker after 3 minutes of booted OS. I've seen the touch screen shift; but haven't been able to replicate it.
3 - #3 Joggler is on my home office desk; also running Mevi's XPsp3. Left internal WLAN nic inside. Running via NIC at 1Gb. Keep switching this one from the USB SSD to the USB ZIF drive. Also on my desk (used for comparison) is an 8" 4:3 Lilliput Resistive TS connected to a first gen Atom based MB, SATA HD and 2Gb of Memory; currently running XPSP3 and TS application. Major differences in the two touchscreens where as the Lilliput needs a plastic stylis for input of anything of detail on the screen. Attached to other CPU is also a Mimo USB resistive TS used again for comparisons. Also testing (not for a while) a simple Linux build on a Seagate Dockstar connected to the Mimo TS monitor running off a 4Gb memory stick.
I have received more of the USB SSD 8Gb Kingspec drives. I am only using one of the new ones externally on Joggler #3.

No worries, Dan. Me casa es su casa.
I think I just did the same on your thread anyway.
So the next builds won't be based on a tiny xp? More credit to you. I kinda tried the same but abandoned it before I'd really got it running. Just as soon as i found out that there was a full fat option on the tiny xp installer.
I still have my media centre edition disks, so that might be a nice diversion from bios payloads and what not. In our garage, we have a load of xbox 360s that the kids have worn out the optical drives on. I'm thinking a slimmed down mce Joggler could serve out media to one of those or the w7 machines.

2003 is based on a tiny build, xp is based on a build that i found the other day in my collection lol
but both builds will have been highly edited by the time I am finished, have found a new shell to try, Talisman, but its not free.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
It's good isn't it, I posted a screenshot of the 'media center' theme a few pages back. I'll have it working for the next build of XP3, probably once the theme is sorted for the Joggler. I like the carpc3 theme as it fits the screen and is good looking. If I distribute it, I'll only install it as a 30day trial and leave people to aquire their own serial number.
As I think we're both kinda duplicating work, I'm going to concentrate on the NIC, cold/warm boot and BIOS. My build is only a week old too, and my instructions include the work-arounds for the things that need fixing in the image. I'll give it a few weeks before I post a new build.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
Yeah talisman not being free is what kinda put me off,
And mev keep building mate, Choice is fine thing and I am going to be concentrating more on a blazing fast os, over looks. I know i said i wanted eye candy but i feel that it can be added as per user preference, for example, I use the joggler for playing media and internet browsing and occupationally i play a game of GTA, so i use a fast OS that works well but is ugly as sin lol
Whereas other people might want it to really pretty if its on display all the time.
Replacing windows shell to litestep would improve performance and would be good looking, but it has one major drawback, when its used it makes windows not look like windows, and I am not sure that people would like this.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
well there is still the option of reverting back to application mode in Talisman, so users can still get to the desktop.
As I don't quite know what everyone wants from XP, I gave 'em everything and it's up to them to keep it fullfat or slim it down themselves. Maybe think about leaving your image to boot to desktop and let them launch talisman and make it the default shell if they like.
Saying that, if the aim is to replace the shell to make the XP Joggler an always on, net connected appliance, then as long as you have all the usual stuff people like all sorted, go for it. Beauty of Talisman is that you could release updates to the front end in the form of themes.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
Would not use talisman because of the price tag, was thinking of using litestep because its really lightweight and runs well.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
whoops, yes you did say that. Actually, the same comments still apply. Although i've not tried Litestep, it looks really good and themes are self contained in a zip. Looks like users can switch shell back to explorer easily if they want, too. The few themes I found on the forum look pukka. Best of both worlds!!

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
yeah they look pretty decent, gonna try some tonight.
I fixed my problems with all my builds not booting after installing drivers, for a reason unbeknown to me, my jogglers internal flash is now seen as a pci device! No matter what build of windows is used lol very strange. but fixed now

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
I've just checked my XP build and I have 3 SD controllers on the PCI bus - perhaps one for each partition? It hasn't stopped me booting, though. I've not touched the internal flash from within Windows aside from looking at it in the storage snap in. It's still stock OS. Did you swap to a new driver? I think that I pretty much stuck to generic drivers for much of the odds and ends, aside from the really important stuff.

Dan,
One of the first things I noticed with your W2003 release was the 3 or 2 unknowns on the PCI bus. Only played with the build for maybe 3 days or so.

Interesting "thing" just happened in the last few minutes here. Power failure maybe 30 seconds long. The three Jogglers are all connected today via Gb LAN. None of the three are connected to UPS's . All three cold booted into the network when the power came back.

Re: RELEASE - Windows XP Professional SP3
Yes.
But I know if I were to unplug the power adapter to the Joggler on my desk and plug it back in; it would lock up booting if I left the NIC plugged in.
I only have one 24 port Gb switch on UPS thats used mostly today for the PCs in the house (not touchscreens) and servers. I have 3 more Gb switches and 2 100Mb switches which were not on UPS; so they also lost power at the same time.
