One of the sellers did say to me that delivery would be a while.

I'm waiting for one too. Ordered about a week ago so it could still be a few weeks to go. I'm hoping that it's been well packaged as the dog hates the postman.

I will first check that it works and then break that thing open! I have also thought about bringing the internal USB port to a back plate if I can make it look tidy, as I've been doing a lot of plugging and unplugging while testing. If I break open the SSD, will the casing go back together OK?

I'm building from a complete install of XP. USBoot phase III is running at the moment, copying to a HDD which will most likely be a requirement of this build for performance reasons.

I broke the case for the USB SSD; but with some careful prying it looks to just be plastic clips holding it together.

The first USB SSD came in a nice metal display case with a plastic window to see the drive.

If you go external with a USB connection to the back then maybe check out using a Zif drive in a case. I bought a case for one I had and its a nice small footprint which would fit flush to the back of the Joggler with a short thin USB cable. Someone mentioned removing a speaker inside of the Joggler for more internal space should the need come up. I initially put a small 4 port USB hub board inside of the Asus Netbook; but it got too warm when it was running (just a cam and bluetooth connected to it).

I'm looking for maybe mounting a joggler on a wall; so looking just a Joggler case to play with. Maybe making up some sort of custom LV POE or similiar wall bracket; removing the stand on the Joggler though.

Buzz,

I went to using the USB SSD connected to the Joggler for "production" for my HA system. Waiting some more for the USB SSD drives to come. But I can benchmark performance in the next couple of days with the ZIF drive versus the flash drive relating to XP.

So you want to see RW performance numbers comparing the desktop numbers to the Joggler numbers running same benchmark application eh?

I've been testing an ArchLinux application (sprinkler application) running now about two months using two flash sticks. The main flash stick still worked but looking at it yesterday; its starting to get messed up a bit. I can get to it and the files; but no longer have the ability to back it up without getting a hardware RW error. Maybe though its just a junky flash drive. Yesterday switch it over to using micro USB sticks for a smaller footprint with the Seagate Dockstar. I like the Seagate dockstar footprint better than the PogoPlug footprint and noticed a similiar test with the PogoPlug that the power supply inside of the PogoPlug is starting to fail when it gets warm. Not really good....

Will do. Outdoors today converting "zones" of outdoor landscaping lamps to LED. One zone done - something like 12 lights from LV Halogen to LED. I did one zone about 2 years ago and haven't changed one LED bulb yet (that one was like 15 lamps).

Historically I have used only 7-8-9-12" LCD touchscreens (use Liliput wide screen or 4:3 resistive type screens) connected to small footprint PCs around the house. Its kind of a "kludgy" solution running power/vga/usb/serial cables to the walls. Another solution though is using Android wall mounted tablets, IPads which are wall mounted...stayed away from those solutions though....

I also have 5.7" CE based TS's which have a very nice small footprint and connect via a serial link/Power with only 4 wires. Not fancy but very functional.

The capacitance screen and small footprint of the Joggler make it a nice compact wall mountable touchscreen....say to control lights, audio, etc type stuff....

Yeah and mine sticks after mup.sys. Probably a driver problem. My broadband went down for most of the day, so progress halted for a while.... back on it now!

Pete, your house sounds like Star Trek. :) Very low WAF acceptance factor in my home. :D

thinking of making a bench thread, would be a great way of finding the best sticks for the joggler

how about something like this to test? seems to do read and write.

http://crystalmark.info/software/Crysta ... dex-e.html

i dont actually have windows installed apart from in a vm (i will install it though shortly as I want to play some games ;-) ), although i could provide some iozone benchmarks.

yeah crystalmark is reliable, but any benchmark would do in theory, as long as it gives a read/write output should not make much difference

The benchmarking program is very old from the middle 2000's called HD Tach and I noticed that it does good with read speeds but no indications of the write speeds.

The program is free today and I believe it used to be a paid program found here:

http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/in ... est=HdTach

I've think I've used Crystal mark before? None the less a separate thread would be nice. A portable ap would be nice too.

Did something similiar with Jeff's Dockstar Debian USB stick speeds although we just posted the numbers from the command line. It would be nice to get the same program that ran in multiple OS's.

BTW I tested the Joggler via VNC in the master bedroom while my wife was sleeping rebooting it about 4 times; and she slept through it all.

Yes Star Trek has been inspirational. I still have all of the episods on VHS tapes (but only have one VHS machine to play them on). I should DivX them. I am old as I became a teen in the 1960's. I did meet Leonard Nimoy sometime in the 1980's at a Consumer Electronics show. Funny though cuz we were standing next to each other for something like 20 minutes memerized by some robot display; I was so hypnotized by the robot that I initially didn't notice he was standing next to me. He seemed very old at the time. We spoke about a few things for like maybe 10 minutes or so. He was pleasant.

The booting issue is also present with the Jeff's Uboot Debian stuff. Thing with that is just a timing of when the Uboot sees the USB stick. I put a timing loop on the Archlinux UBoot such that it waits a bit before booting. I initially was worried about bricking the Dockstar playing with the UBoot. Its a real PITA in have to JTAG the thing.
