Electric charge from Joggler

Post by richonhelp »

Strange one this- can someone try this out. I normally use Joggler on sofa, when I am touching the screen and my girlfriend touches my arm there is a strange vibration! I would doubt her on this but it happens all the time. Could be my Joggler? Or going mad!!

It's caused by poor electrical isolation between the AC and DC components of the transformer. Basically, you're getting a low level of 50Hz AC current passing through you. Harmless (but weird) at low levels, but it can signify a failing transformer, and the last thing you want is pure AC scooting through you.

Are you using the original OpenPeak transformer to power the Joggler or a third party unit? I've never had the problem with the OpenPeak ones, but I have experienced it with the cheap transformer that was supplied with a Joggler on eBay.

I get small sparks when the sand comes in contact with metal casing (such as on a satellite set-top box which I have next to mine).
But yes, I get mild zaps from it at times.

Thank you all for info, the electric current is not just on arm but runs through back, legs etc You can also hear it as well. I'm using original Openpeak plug, good to know its harmless hopefully!

Keep an eye on it. If it gets any worse, replace the PSU. It's unlikely, but if it deteriorates further there is the possibility, however slim, that you could get a harmful amount of current through.

If you ever utter an expletive after touching it, just get a new PSU. There's my rule of thumb. ;)

again thank you for your help, I brought a spare from ebay just in case. I did find some information about a possible product recall of the PSUs http://www.filesaveas.com/news/2009/07/ ... ecall.html

I sometimes get similar effect from my cat, when I'm touching her fur :D Don't know if this effect would pass through me to anyone else. But I think nothing too surprising here, cause we deal with electricity in Joggler, so such things are due to some physics ;)
