Current Squeezeplay for Joggler

Post by sixedup »

I see with interest that Ralph Irving has been steadily supporting and enhancing Squeezeplay over on GitHub (https://github.com/ralph-irving/squeezeos-squeezeplay) and is now up to version 9.0.1, which is significantly up-level from the version Roobarbs of-install script installs for the latest Debian releases (version 7.8.1 from https://openbeak.net/openframe/squeezeplay/v7.8/). However, Ralph doesn't ship a i386 Linux version later than 8.0.1; everything later is only built for x86_64 which won't run on the Joggler.

I tried the 8.0.1 version, on my Bookworm install and its OK (once I'd found the Joggler wallpapers to support our higher resolution screens) but its not as well integrated with the hardware as Roobarbs version - the backlight stays on when the players is "off", there is a cursor on the screen, etc. Small things, but it would be nice to see them included in the latest code. And of course 9.0.1 is 3 years more up to date than the 8.0.1 I was able to install - it would be nice to be on the current release.

So the point of this post was to ask if we can we get the 9.0.1 code + Joggler-specific fixes made available in an i386 version somehow? I can see several ways of doing this, but they all seem predicated on the effort of one or both of Ralph and Rubarb, neither of whom I know. Thoughts?
