Well I can only think of this, which I have not tried on a legacy installation

I mostly use external sticks (for the OS) nowadays and a usb hub if I want to use an external usb DAC.

I have unfortunately not managed to install Squeezeplay with the instructions so far. Is there a detailed guide? My problem so far is that I run of-install squeezeplay, but after the reboot there is only a black screen. When I log in via putty and start Squeezeplay, it opens, but the touch does not work afterwards. I have the Joggler with built-in speakers. The goal would also be to write it to the internal memory. If I do that, I get the same errors as from the USB stick.

If I use the Squeezplay OS, the problem is that at the beginning of the setup, it wants to connect to the server, which no longer exists. Couldn't the OS be adapted or a version created that runs?

If you have tried three different OS, Bookworm, Bullseye and SQPOS and none work, something must be wrong, but I have no idea where the error is situated.

Is the Squeezeplay available as a player in your local server (time to update to LyrionMusicServer, although should not have any effect)

If you want to trouble shoot, you need to stick to one OS and describe exactly what you do

For nearly a year now it has not been possible to use mysqueezebox dot com

If you want to use Squeezeplay you have to run the LyrionMusicServer somewhere on your network

Cheapest option is a slim client computer or a raspberry pi.

NO

This was possible at one time but was always 'flaky' and very slow in operation

If your joggler has 1GB ram there is not enough room

If your joggler has 2 GB ram then it is, in theory, possible, but whenever I have tried to expand the filesystem (sudo of-expand) it has failed.

It was possible to use the Ubuntu imager on a usb stick, put it into the joggler and boot from that.

I used to run SQPOS on the internal flash of my Jogglers, but they were becoming increasingly unreliable as that image was over a decade old, and many things have changed in that time (including the closure of the public MySqueezebox servers, software fixes, etc). To upgrade them, I replaced SQPOS with Debian Bullseye and a more recent version of Squeezeplay. It provides a good SqueezePlayer OS replacement.

In terms of step by step instructions for installing the software on the Joggler, these are the instructions that I followed. They were intended for Joggler with a USB-connected DAC, but should still give you a good starting point. Read through the instructions and make sure you're comfortable with them before you start!

I'd suggest avoiding Bookworm if you intend to install on the Joggler's internal flash, as the install of Squeezeplay and its graphics dependencies run out of memory on Bookworm, and fails to complete. You then have to fix the partially installed software manually, which is not fun.

Finally, don't forget that you will still need a version of Lyrion Music Server installed somewhere on your network too. Using something like a Raspberry Pi 3 and a USB key (to hold your music) should be fine to get you up and running, though if you have a very large music collection you may need something with more storage space.

I have installed everything.
I was even able to enlarge the partition.
My biggest problem is that after the off-install squeezeplay, it does not start after reboot.
Only the prompt appears.
So far, I haven't figured out how to get it to start automatically.

It would also be cool if there is a variant where I can plug in the USB stick and then it installs everything automatically.
Just like in the past with SQPOS with the reflash.

I have the LMS running on my Synology NAS in Docker.
Although, I could try to install it on the internal memory as well.
I did expand it.

Here are the instructions on how I did it:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y parted
sudo parted
resizepart 2 100%
quit
sudo resize2fs /dev/mmcblk2p2
sudo reboot


PS: Just so you know, it doesn't work for me with of-update...
It can't find the program.
