Basic music only player needed.
Basic music only player needed.
I had a few Jogglers some four or five years ago when I got it working in my car successfully running Squeezeplay.
I've just bought another one with the intention of using it as just a desk top music player that doesn't need an internet connection. All I want to do is to plug a flash drive in,have it show me a list of what's on there and I hit play and listen to music.
Is Squeezeplay still my best option for this,or has something better come along since I last played with a Joggler?

Squeeze play may well be your best option still

Ok so I tried the latest version of the native OS.I don't like the way when a flash drive is plugged in it opens up all the folders and lists their contents all in the same place.I will normally want to select a folder and listen only to it's contents,so that's no good for me.
I reflashed the latest version of Squeezeplay to internal memory as I don't want to use it through a hub,and it all works and loads up,but I don't get the option to install LMS on the Joggler. It's not listed under Settings>Advanced>Additional features where my memory might have tricked me into thinking it used to be? I have 310mb left,is this not enough for LMS?

It is possible, here is how I did it today; the LMS is this versionImagewerx wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 10:04 am Ok so I tried the latest version of the native OS.I don't like the way when a flash drive is plugged in it opens up all the folders and lists their contents all in the same place.I will normally want to select a folder and listen only to it's contents,so that's no good for me.

If you need to update the version at any time, use "sudo remove" to remove LMS and then install the new version (this will keep your preferences).
When I do this I have a running instance of LMS on another computer (just installed-not configured).
This allows Squeezeplay to connect easily to a LMS rather than hunting for mysqueezebox.com
I would do each line individually
Code: Select all
sudo sed -i.bak 's/ubuntu.datahop.net/archive.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y install libio-socket-ssl-perl lame libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl
wget -O logitechmediaserver_arm.i386 $(wget -q -O - "http://www.mysqueezebox.com/update/?version=7.9.2&revision=1&geturl=1&os=debi386")
sudo dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_arm.i386
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo reboot
When the Joggler comes back up, go to My Music > Switch Library > openframe
Then on another computer open the LMS web gui and configure to taste.
Hope this helps

Re: Basic music only player needed.
Ok thanks for the answer Ronnie.
I've only just finished playing with it after getting rid of the latest version and going back to an earlier one,in this case sqpos109.It gave me LMS to install, which I did.I logged onto http://192.168.0.16:9000/ from my PC and it let me go through the procedure of me having to tell it where my music was stored.which all worked properly after hitting 'Apply'.
I rebooted to make sure it would find my music again, and it wouldn't,the USB stick flashed to show it was being read but nothing under my music.I tried to log in again from http://192.168.0.16:9000/ and it can't find it even after rebooting my PC and the Joggler despite numerous attempts it (and my music) are nowhere to be found.

Re: Basic music only player needed.
It should be under
LMS Settings > Basic Settings > Media Folders > Browse
I seem to remember that I had to mount the USB stick into fstab.
I just popped a couple of folders on to a usb stick and it still works.

It's for a raspberry pi but works on the joggler

Re: Basic music only player needed.
I forgot it issues a new IP address every time,so managed to get into LMS to configure it to find my music. But it still needs a wired ethernet connection to find the music even though it's seeing the flash drive when I plug it in It flashes). But it won't work on wi-fi and won't find my music no matter what I do to it.
I REALLY miss being able to put a cassette in,shut the door, press the play button and listen to music.I didn't have to log in,I didn't have to put my password or user name in,I didn't need an internet connection,I just listened to music.
This really is way more complicated than I need it to be.I chose the Joggler because it's the perfect size and is still the best desk top unit of this kind I've ever used.Someone somewhere must have made a stripped down music only player. You plug a flash drive in,it lists what's on it,you choose a folder, hit play and you hear music. No internet connection,no user name etc etc.

Re: Basic music only player needed.
Sorry to hear about the problem, it might be worth installing the open peak image and checking that the wireless works.
Then maybe start from a fresh download.

Re: Basic music only player needed.
Got it working but only by reflashing it again and reinstalling LMS etc. It's getting beyond a joke that I have to go through all this just to listen to music
.
Sooooooo......is there not a basic music player that will work on Joggler I can use instead?

The Joggler can run Android and it doesn't get much simpler than that , give that a try ?Imagewerx wrote:Got it working but only by reflashing it again and reinstalling LMS etc. It's getting beyond a joke that I have to go through all this just to listen to music.

Re: Basic music only player needed.
Installed Clementine on a basic Openframe 2 that is running Squeezeplayer.
Interface is kind of small and it would be difficult to navigate with the touch screen.
You could just remove the autolaunch of Squeezeplayer and launch Clementine on boot.

Re: Basic music only player needed.
Ok thanks everyone,I'll try that when I get time.
What happens to the internal SPDIF output that needs to be activated when running Squeezeplay, will it sill work with Android or Clementine?
