Maybe found a way to change the firmware on the NIC such that it works in XP build.
You can install a PXE ROM mod maybe. Using a hex viewer the code has places for a MAC address.
Noticed too by disabling and enabling NIC that the only error is "invalid mac address".

I took apart my Joggler today without breaking anything.
Dan, I use a custom touchscreen "shell" to an automation server. What would work would be some sort of automotive car pc software.
I utilize a custom very simple front end for my CarPC's. Just the basics. I've seen some elaborate setups out there though.
Most of it is very customizable. Mine is running in XP but works in Ubuntu.
Relating to the built in NIC card.
- took the USB WLAN stick out.
- deleted the original built in driver
- removed the USB to NIC device that I was using
- rebooted it - boots faster without the WLAN stick in it.
- still an error in the event log relating to the network address of the NIC.

Re: release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised
yeah i thought there might be, i think the wireless has to be in for the Ethernet to start.
yeah i did look and had centrafuse running on the joggler,
but didn't really fit IMO,
will try to find something better
ATM we have chrome which is touch friendly
next would be a good touch freindly media player, i have tried xbmc with the jogler skin but was a bit too much, something a little more understated would be nice.

Think for XP maybe cuz in Linux it still works without the USB NIC stick. I'm trying different drivers but I keep getting the same message about a problem with the network address in the events log.
I guess for touch; it could be similiar to the CE interfaces you see on the combo GPS touchscreen devices.

I got the NIC driver working. Interesting. This is on a 4Gb stick from maybe one week ago?
Its one of the ones with the slow boot, 372Mb of memory and an error with the paging file.
Here's what it looks like coming up in DHCP. I remember in one version of XP seeing that same MAC address. Not too concerned about the MAC as long as it works.
No MAC is set in properties.
Under the Local Area Connection its showing something I never noticed before:
- Realtek Intermediate Driver for Ethernet Extended features
- Realtek VLAN Intermediate driver
- Realtek NDIS Protocal driver

Re: release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised
Testing one I just downloaded from Lenova. The installation screen is bigger than the Joggler screen; so it makes it a bit difficult to install.
The executable from Lenova installed the base setup drivers under the root. I can zip these up if I see it working in the next few minutes.
Locked it up. I am having an issue removing the old driver.
Installed it; not working; same error. Not sure why though.

Not totally sure. Its an old one on a 4Gb stick. Slow boot, 372 Mb of Ram; corrupt paging file. I saw the same MAC address though a few times. It was around the time when I would plug in the NIC cable and the Joggler would lock up.
I'm looking now at the original files.

Re: release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised
I'm at a point where it's loading the drivers fine and I see the wierd mac address.
The problem is that as soon as I plug in the network cable I lock the Joggler up.
If I plug in the network cable and reboot its getting stuck at the "Mup.sys" part or thereafter of the boot process.

Re: release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised
Fixed it. It lost the TCP/IP protocal. I don't know how though. Use the attached drivers. Don't plug a network cable yet. Check the network connections / local area connection to make sure you have TCP/IP running. Now this might have been just me though. It did come up with a unique MAC address. Tested it on reboot; works fine; unique MAC; not the odd one above.
Tried to delete the above couple of posts; but cannot.

Re: release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised
Still an issue.
It lost the MAC address after about 3 boots and went back to not starting. Still playing. The USB stick with the XP that worked wasn't plugged into a USB hub. This one is. Doesn't make sense. Its like there some sort of lock on ancillary drivers or something similar.
I'm going to try maybe some "drivers cleaner" and see what happens.

Re: release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised
I ended up modifying the first mentioned XP internal NIC working image with the wierd MAC. I kind of lost track of the images for a bit. The one that worked off of the NIC with the WLAN card wouldn't come up. I played with that one a bit and its now working.
I also changed the EFI on that one such that it has more memory. Going to try this on inside of the Joggler in the USB port. Ordered the SSD for the internal USB port.
I'm leaving the MAC alone for now cuz its working. I'm also leaving it at DHCP for a bit before I change it to a static IP.
I've rebooted it a few times and it looks OK. Everytime it boots it has a new MAC address.
I just tested the previously posted image without the USB WLAN card. It should work the same. Install the NIC drivers posted above. Once installed disable the NIC in control panel / system / hardware. Boot the Joggler a couple of times. Enable the NIC. Boot the joggler a couple of more times. By the third time rebooting you should see the NIC card with no errors. Connect a network cable and you should be good to go.
