npaster on joggler/squeezeplayer

Post by Avman »

Hi all,

I have been diving through the posts for some time and keep getting mixed answers to this questions "can napster run on a joggler using squeezeplay. I was having issues playing napster tracks using squeezeplay which seems to be fixed now (not sure how but i did it).
If anyone knows it would be really appreciated.

thanks

I've not been able to get it to run on Joggler's Squeezeplay, although I have tried.
Have they perhaps changed the format of their content stream? Do you use a Squeezeserver helper plugin to stream Napster content?

I don't think they have changed the way they stream content, the only plugin I have installed is the BBC iplayer and Alien BBC but I can't imagine that can be connected as the streaming formats were already supported by squeezeplayer.
I guess the answer is to try it but my main use for the music system is napster so buying a joggler is a bit pants if it doesn't work.

Any one else tried it?.

The BBC wma streams don't work for me, I have to specifically choose aac streams before they will play. Does Napster stream using wma? If so, that may be the problem.

Also, I'm a bit confused by your first post. Are you saying that you've got Napster playing on Squeezeplay on another device but can't get it to work on the Joggler? I thought you were saying that you had it working on the Joggler but didn't know how, hence my question about plugins.

Spotify works well but only if you have a premium account, which you probably don't want if you've got Napster. Spotify's worth the money if you've got an Android phone, iPod Touch or iPhone because a premium account also allows you to use it on mobile devices. You can save stuff in offline mode for when wi-fi isn't available (but not on the Joggler, as far as I know).

thanks,

should have been clearer, I have napster now playing on another device using squeezeplay (on a laptop). I did have problems at first and I'm not sure how i fixed it.

I now have a joggler and napster won't play on it, I suppose I could swap over to spotify as the napster account is only monthly. I believe the napster stream is wma. How do you choose aac streams for the bbc stuff?.

thanks for your help, the only things I really want to use it for is the bbc iplayer and a streaming service such as npaster.

To specify what streams iPlayer uses on the Joggler:

Install the iPlayer plugin on Squeezeserver.
Open up squeezserver in a web browser on your PC/Mac (http://joggler-ip-address:9000)
click on the "settings" icon in the bottom right of the page
click on the "plugins" tab on the next page
check that iPlayer is installed as a plugin on Squeezeserver
if it is, click on the "settings" link for the plugin on the right of the page
choose which streams you want iPlayer to use. I have everything ticked except wma

For Spotify you need to install Triode's Spotify plugin - on the settings page you will enter your username and password. It only works for the premium account though, not the £4.99 a month one.

I've written a more detailed explanation on the forum in this thread: http://bit.ly/nk7cly
It also has the "chown" command you need to run if Squeezeserver doesn't save your changes. If you don't have Squeezeserver installed on the Joggler, the easiest way is by installing through gforums' Plug'n'Pimp. Be patient if you do because Squeezeserver takes a bit longer than the other apps to install. Just wait till Tango restarts on the Joggler and you'll be fine

The above assumes you are installing on the stock OS. If you're using one of BuZz's distros you can download and install the Squeezeserver 'deb' file from the Squeezebox website.

I forgot to mention that some of the Squeezserver plugins are hidden by default until you tick the box to allow 3rd party plugins (on the bottom of the settings page.)

Installed your build of Squeezeplayer on Joggler and it is excellent. But to make it perfect for my use, I would love to see some alternative now playing screens…

I am using the joggler mainly as a display device, it is on the Hi-Fi shelves and is some distance from the seating position (I know I could move it but it has to be wife friendly too!) So here is my plea…

Is there any way there could be a display mode that shows the maximum cover art to the left 480×480, with larger font shows playing info in a scrolling region to the right. Or maybe a top panel showing similar to classic3 scrolling info in large font, with lesser info to the limited region on the right, eg 2.34/4.23 playing time info, digital time? etc. Anything with a larger cover art and larger playing info would be great.

I have no idea how hard this would be, to introduce a new mode. Alternatively on the main display an increase in both the cover art to the max space available, at the moment there is a boarder. Also the font for the playing info could be increase and use scrolling more. Maybe the font sizes could respect the font sizing info which does not seem to do anything on squeezeplayer?

Finally, maybe I have missed something, but I dont get VU options when scrolling through now playing, any ideas what I have missed?

Thanks again for any info, very impressed with your work. Beer money would certainly be in its way if any of my above desires were met ;-)
