release: jogglerxp foshiz edition (image up)plus revised ver
Re: release: xp on joggler foshiz edition (image up)
So I completed the backup image to a CF drive. Using the same Joggler XP image I wrote the CF snapshot C drive image over to the IDE 1.8" drive. The application did indicate it could not create another boot partition. This wasn't really an issue. I booted up an adjacent laptop (with Ubuntu 11.04 on it), attached the IDE/USB drive to it and set the NTFS partition to a boot partition.
I then connected the 1.8" IDE/USB drive by itself to the Joggler. Booted right up (very fast) and into Windows XP. Next piece was to run the touchscreen application that I am testing (Linux, Android, RDP, etc). It ran just fine and very quick. Faster than the RDP version, slower than the Android and Linux Version; where as the Ubuntu 11.04 runs the touchscreen application the fastest.
Next piece is to add VNC for remote access. The small size would maybe work inside of the Joggler; but then I would lose the WLAN piece; so better now to try to get the LAN Nic to work.
Now if the faster USB works as well as this IDE; that would be ideal.
From here will run RW benchmarks and will post them.
I wonder if a USB connected SSD would work better. I have the "PCIE" mini style ones but none of them have USB connections on them. Or maybe using (not a really good soldering person these days) the PATA interface with a small "boot" only USB internal drive.

Re: release: xp on joggler foshiz edition (image up)
Great news Dan!
Yes think that's the issue (page file) maybe.
Reading a lot on the web lately. I found a smaller USB hub which allows boot of IDE 1.8" drive and keyboard and mouse which helps some.
Its kind of a "first" with EFI et al other than folks playing with MAC's to get to XP.
Its nice though 'cuz with a linux setup you can manipulate the partition and files within partition; which is easier to do than with a windows box.

Just wrote the partition to the test drive again. Booted very quickly. Its "stalling" a bit as it loads the USB drivers. With a keyboard and mouse I can see a bit more what its doing. Let me know if I can do anything from here.

Here's something that I am using on the Asus 900A multiboot laptop I have. Works fine for me for XP RAM. But I have 2Gb of Ram in the machine, SSD and SD booting stuff.
Its very old and its "roots" are in embedded MS.
I got this originally from the EEEPC Asus website forum.

Re: release: xp on joggler foshiz edition (image up)
Dan,
I haven't played in years with it. If you give me a step by step on what you are doing. I also have VM's running here; but would rather test in vivo.
Additionally have numerous build kits for XPE; but again its been a few years. (although did do a quickie build last year on a new Atom D510).
Been concurrently playing with some new custom one purpose software on two builds using a "Pink" PogoPlug (running archlinux) and a Seagate Dockstar (debian linux). (Mono/SDL stuff).
I tinker though as a hobby; not as a profession; and my preference is relating to HW; versus software programming.

Re: release: xp on joggler foshiz edition (image up)
So found some quickie directions to make an XP WinPE USB dongle on an XP machine.
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... n&id=16958
Or prep a USB drive with UFDPREP.EXE from here:1. Download a copy of HxD (http://mh-nexus.de/hxd/)
2. Format your USB Flash drive in XP: format x: /fs:fat (where x: is your USB UFD)\
3. Open HxD, Click Extras -> Open Disk (Uncheck "Open as Readonly") and select "Removable Disk 1"
4. Hit Alt-G and goto offset 1BE. Ensure this is 80, if not make it 80 (Active Partition)
5. Hit Alt-G and goto offset 10024. Make this 80 (Vista wants a logical drive number 80).
6. Hit Alt-G and goto offset 101A1, Type in 42 4F 4F 54 4D 47 52 (This sets the executable code to look the file BOOTMGR)
7. Exit and Save changes.
8. xcopy your WinPE source files to the USB Drive.

So I changed the flag on the partition such that I can play with the boot files and specifically the USB stuff.

Great news Dan!
Better than my progress so far....
Here I tried the following -
- created a 1 partition Fat32 USB drive - made it bootable and active
- installed the USB boot program - tested it to be fine booting into windows (using my Asus901A)
- moved custom ntdetect.com and ntldr to root drive created.
- copied over rest of files on current configured usb single partition drive
- boots to invalide ntdetect.com file and boot.ini file. (changed boot.ini such that it boots windows from first partition).
