Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
I have my Joggler running Android 4.0 from an external USB stick and connected to a pair of powered Creative PC speakers via the headphone socket. Recently I've noticed that if I power off the speakers by switching off their PSU Android immediately freezes and I need to power it off to restart it. Can anyone think why this might be happening?
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Its a voltage spike / rfi issue most likely , separating the power sources will most likely cure this and by that I mean have the Joggler in a wall power socket on its own if it's not already .
Alternately a surge protector would probably sort it

Mains interference is not an exact science however and usually it is a process of elimination.
Good luck

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Thanks, it's good to have someone who knows about electronics! The speakers and Joggler are powered from the same 4 gang extension lead and the speakers have a meaty big PSU that gets quite hot so I'm sure you're right.
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Sorry for threadjacking but where can I found a working android image that I can write to disk and be good to go?? Tried finding one before but no luck so far...
Are you able to install apps from appstore via joggler?

Here you go http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... f=2&t=1598 - the appstore is fully working and it's rooted too.
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Thanks! So if I understand correctly then I should go for the 2014-03-31 image on the Kirchhofer weppage, and write that to USBdisk??
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Nope, the Kirchhofer image is faulty, go for this one instead http://www.mediafire.com/download/qcgve ... l2.img.tgzError wrote:Thanks! So if I understand correctly then I should go for the 2014-03-31 image on the Kirchhofer weppage, and write that to USBdisk??

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
I just tried it and it works fine. Another thing to try is installing the Squeezeplayer app https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ayer&hl=en and the free Squeezebox app https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... mote&hl=en then you can use your Android Joggler as a fully-fledged Squeezebox player & controller. You can then install the Tunein app to your Squeezebox account and use it to access pretty much any radio station you want, including all the BBC stations. For some reason the Tunein native Android app does not work on the Joggler but this is a good workaround.hawsey wrote:Dave , would you know if the BBC Radio app works on this image please
My main kitchen Joggler just sits all day with Type Mail running so I can keep an eye on my emails and I can easily start up the Squeezebox apps whenever I need some music. Just make sure you ditch the native launcher and install Nova Launcher instead.
The other 2 Jogglers run Squeezeplay OS which is more kid-friendly.
PS I just turned my speaker off at the knob on the speaker & no crash!
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Cheers
I'm setting up a small hi fi in the summerhouse / man cave and I might give this a go ,radio 6 is my fave so that's great .
Is that a solution for you then turn off at the knob ?

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off

The downloaded image is a .img.tgz
I unpack it with 7ZIP
I get a file which now is a img.tar
Which one should I write to disk?

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
keep unzipping until you get a .img file and write that using Win32diskimager
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
I think after you have unzipped it if it doesnt end in .img you can just re name it , that was tripping me up once over .

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
when I unzip it further I get 4 filesdwl99 wrote:keep unzipping until you get a .img file and write that using Win32diskimager
0.fat 499MB
1.fat 50,0 MB
2.img 450,0 MB
3.img 1,02 GB
Is that correct? Which one should I write to disk?
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Apologies, just do exactly as Hawsey said in his last post & it should work - rename the .img.tar file to .img
Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
That would be after the first unzip , if it doesn't end in .IMG , re name it then use Win32 disc imager or similar to write it to your freshly formatted stick using the HP utilities tool if necessary
Good luck :-0

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
funny thing is that in windows explorer the file end with .img, but when I open Win32DiskImager I see the extension ending at .img.tar.
I chose to write the .img.tar image to disk but it doesn't work, the Joggler boots into PNPIII which is on internal flash. So the stick doesn't work.
But how can I rename a file which ends on IMG (according to Windows) to 'real' IMG??

Re: Android 4.0 crashes when external speaker powered off
Right click on it and rename I think , I'll get my laptop out tonight and do what you are doing to see where you're going wrong
