Joggler help

Post by Tia2015 »

I have a joggler that I have dug out of a cupboard and want to use for "something" instead of it being a wasted entity. I have plugged it in and the open peak logo come up but that is it .... I have tried 5 different USB sticks that I know have something on and the unit does nothing - can anyone tell me what I need to do to make the stupid thing work. Do I neet to plug it into my laptop through the Ethernet cable and try working it that way?

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum .
No don't do that with the Ethernet cable .
So what stage are we at here , I take it you plugged your joggler in and waited and all you get is the openpeak logo is that right ,
Next you say you plugged in usb sticks , did you put one of the operating systems available for the joggler on them and see if that would boot ?
Don't worry if you've got the patience we will get you to what you want :-)
Have you an idea what use you want to put the joggler to ?, music player / radio or maybe a full desktop type os.

Hi, and thanks for replying.

I haven't put any software on a USB, I literally plugged it in and tried to use it as an electronic photo frame. I didn't actually realise, until I found this forum, that it could be turned into anything useful .... I would really like to use it as a TV extender, plugging it into my existing (non-smart) tv and getting netflix etc through it IF THAT IS POSSIBLE. I don't know - whatever I can do with it will be weeeeyyyyyyy better than what it is doing now : lol

Try and download one of the distros from here
http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64
Linux mint or xubuntu just to see if it boots from usb :-) format your usb stick first then use the instructions in that thread to write the extracted download to the usb stick :-)

You should be able to do what you want as we use a joggler in the kitchen for YouTube .
Don't get too excited about the Android distros as although they work really well , video does not work on them .
Xbmc works great on the Linux builds I mentioned above .
Have fun ...

So you format your stick using the hp utilities tool
Download your image file and extract using 7zip or similar
Then write it to your stick using the win32 disc image tool .
Sounds complicated but it's not :-)

So you use 7zip to extract the file in to a folder on your pc , this file you extracted will end in .img and this is what you write to the stick using the win32 disc imager tool..

Great stuff :-) I keep meaning to do a tutorial because I had exactly the same problems as you when I started .
So your best bet is to probably look at xbmc which is built in to BuZz's Xubuntu build , do a bit of research on xbmc ( now being called kodi ) within xbmc you can download hundreds of apps from places called repositories including iplayer , there are many legit and non legit ones ( you will have to Google )
Once you have it as you like you can set it to auto boot when the Joggler is switched on via xubuntu.

As far as PNP III is concerned that boots from the internal memory and is an addition to the "stock os" which unfortunately your joggler seems to have lost ; now you can get the stock os back and then add pnpIII to it if you want to but that is a whole different ball game however video apps etc are limited ...

Am I correct in saying the USB has to stay in the joggler with the software on?

To boot xubuntu and most other oses apart from stock yes the usb needs to be in but you can get some really tiny black ones you hardly see .

For stock , here you go .

http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2105

After getting this up and running reboot a couple of times , then use the instructions to upgrade to PNPIII , when you do this , with the PNPIII stick you made, you plug it in then switch on the joggler but bare in mind it looks like it isn't working but just go away , have beer / wine / tea , come back later and it will be done :-)
Enjoy
