Strange Flirc behaviour

I've got a couple of Jogglers now and the first one I use for experimenting on or for spares should any ever be needed.I've got a Flirc I've used with both of them and this is where it gets odd.The good one I'm now using in my car worked at first with the Flirc,but over a week or so the time it would work for would get less and less,until now it only works for about a minute or so after it's first powered up,or mostly it doesn't work at all.

The old one works almost indefinitely with the Flirc.I left it plugged in on the bench ticking over nearly all weekend with the same Flirc plugged into it and used it every time I walked past it to see how it was getting on.It worked perfectly for over a day with the same Flirc the other Joggler doesn't like,and I even got another Flirc and that's exactly the same in both of them.

The only difference with the new one is it's running through a USB hub.But even if I plug the Flirc directly into the Joggler,it still doesn't work.Other things like my USB flash drive where my music is stored works perfectly through the hub,so the hub must be working as it's supposed to?

Soooooooooo......has any one got any ideas why this is happening please?

Flirc 1 - works with Joggler A and B ?

Flrc 2 works with Joggler A but not B ?

Do both Flirc 1 & 2 have the same firmware ?

Sorry I should have said.Both are running the latest version of Squeezeplay.Both Flircs work with Joggler A but neither work with Joggler B for more than a few minutes at the most.Joggler B is the one I'm using in my car and Joggler A is my captive lab rat.

Indeed,and they're both exactly the same model as well.

So come on the rest of the community (although it doesn't seem like that at times when just one person always answers all my questions),has any one else got any ideas please?

Come on guys,someone must have an idea on this one please? Is there a unique part of what happens inside the Joggler that is only used by a Flirc and nothing else?

As far as I understand the Flirc is 'seen' as a usb keyboard. If you have one, try testing with that. If it doesn't work then it's some strange joggler problem.

Tried it with a USB keyboard today and the amount of randomness is exactly the same. It might work when first booted up and plugged in (or it might not work at all),or it could work for 1 minute or 20 minutes before it's had enough.

Looks like your Joggler has issues, then.

Is this with OS in internal memory? Or have you tried OS on usb hub?

This is now using external memory into a hub as it looks like the internal is goosed.It's the same when plugged directly into the Joggler.

These things really are the biggest piles of crap ever aren't they? It won't even boot up at all now .

Err no! They are actually very resilient. Out of my pay-grade, but there are ways and means to revive a flaky one. You'll need to search and read, or ask for help!

Very rare for a Joggler To die completely, at the worst usually you can boot an os from usb stick even if the internal goes.
Roobarbs birdslikewires website has some great tools for recovering your joggler.

Yup personally the Joggler and its build along with the Openframe models were built / constructed very well.

That said I mentioned the Chumby in another thread.

The Chumby while easy to mod was built very cheap inside and outside.

A similar device sourced from OpenPeak would have in fact probably taken the market for said type of device.

The Chumby was a sort of clock radio on steroids to me even though I was able to run a bunch of stuff on it.

I have a little collection of the products that were offered up by Openpeak.

Verizon / Openpeak did build a little telco "do what". Quality of the build was functional and very cheaply built.

Cisco, AT&T, Ayava (and international telco providers) decided on the Openframe II (or 7) and it was a quality product domestically here in the US and internationally.

Read up some and ask questions as the Joggler; as stated is a very resilient little machine.

Aaaaaaahhhhh now I see how to get more than one person on here to answer me is to insult a box full of electronic components .

In my not inconsiderable experience,I'd have to say that this is the least resilient of any piece of consumer electronics I've ever owned.Just sitting on the bench on a VERY good power supply,it's completely random as to whether it boots up or not,or even which stage of the boot sequence it gets stuck at.When it eventually boots up fully,it's random as to whether it finds my music which is till in the same place it was before it was rebooted.Then it's also random as to whether I get the full track and artist name shown on the screen and track elapsed time,or the path to where the file is stored,so instead of 'Muse......Resistance' etc,I get usb/mnt/...... etc.This in one folder while others work perfectly and show the information they're supposed to.Reboot and it might work perfectly or it might not work at all.Then there's the Flirc working for random periods of time if it works at all.Oh and of course the internal memory is soooooo resilient it doesn't work at all now meaning I have to boot from external storage.

So certainly now what I'd describe as resilient.

It was going to be either a Squeeze Box Touch,a Joggler or a Chumby I'd use in my car.Tried a 'Touch but they're biblically overpriced and the screen is crap,and they're really not as good as the fanboys seem to think they are.The Chumby is really nothing more than a toy,so that was a no brainer. The Joggler is almost exactly car stereo double DIN size so fits exactly where I need it to,and with the addition of just an optical output jack I can get what I'd have to pay a £1000 or more for with a dedicated car stereo to get optical output for under £40.So despite my opinion of the Joggler,it's the only one that really works for me and the price we can buy them for now means it's not too bad if it or I mess up and have to spend money on a replacement.

Have you reflashed your Joggler yet?
From what you have said to be honest I would probably just sell it and move on to another device .
If you decide to stick with it there are countless people using these devices 24/7 on various operating systems .Xbmc, squeezeplay , Linux mint etc .
Stick with it, you will get there.. Good luck
