Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
I have two Jogglers running SqueezePlay OS over a VPN back to my main server.
Unfortunately they identify as the same unit and sound only plays out of one.
In more detail, one unit works as expected, browsing back to the main server on another subnet via VPN.
The second unit identifies as the first one i.e. if I change the name of one, it reflects on the other. I've tried all sorts of things to try and circumvent this.
Moreover, when I try to play on the second unit, it beeps correctly during menu selection, but when I actually hit the play button, sound only comes out of the first unit. It's as though it's acting as a remote control.
Help?

Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
do they happen to share the same MAC address?
Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
Is the hostname the same for both? Check in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname.

Thanks for replies,
The MAC addresses are different, as for hostname, here's the output of both files:
/etc/hosts

I tried changing openframe to openfrane2 on one unit, to no avail.openframe

In both /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname? Then rebooting it? If so, it's a puzzler.ddichiera wrote:I tried changing openframe to openfrane2 on one unit, to no avail.

Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
Mmm. I wonder if this is more to do with LMS and the VPN than the Jogglers. Do you have other devices on that other subnet that behave properly with LMS?

Do tell...
Not familiar with LMS, although I am using Cisco routers. An RV042G and an RV082 at either end with a VPN.
I can RDC, FTP and most things across the VPN. MS filesharing is a little more difficult, but i know that's down to MS firewall settings.

Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
Here have been playing a bit with my PFSense firewall. I was most familiar with using Smoothwall at home (years now).
I now have 8 Gb interfaces on it; multiple WAN (failover / load balancing) and started to play with the VPN tunnel applications / plugins to PFSense.
The above noted I did set up a VPN IPSec tunnel a couple of weeks ago. That said I could see all of the Jogglers that I have online here with no issue (20 plus today). Only two though are running squeezeplayer and connected to an Ubuntu Squeezeserver today. I have a mixture of Wintel desktop OS and server OS and Linux Server boxes running on my network today.
Looking to place a Joggler in another home basically just to run some basics and currently looking for a tiny footprint esthetically pleasing USB camera today. Found some cheapo's for under $10 USD so far.

Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
Ok, I'm taking a different approach, but I need some advice.
The good unit was built at the main server site (it found the server immediately) whereas the difficult unit was built at the remote site. I had quite a bit of difficulty getting it to register to the server and in the end had to build a local server to get it kick started. (I don't have that at the moment)
So I've decided to try the external USB image. Can anyone tell me where I can enter relevant parameters via ssh? e.g. server ip address etc, perhaps even the Mysqueezebox login details?

Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
If the automatic server discovery is not working then you can tell Squeezeplay where LMS is by adding that LMS as a remote library

Re: Two Jogglers over VPN identify as one.
Thanks for that but it didn't seem to work.
What did work though was restoring the LMS server at the remote site, (i.e. local subnet for the two jogglers) allowing the joggler to find that, then... registering the remote server on the joggler via the aforementioned menu.
BTW, I'd set off installing the local media server on the jogglers as well, but had the LMSserver installed by the time that was up and running, so not really sure which one of the two did the trick.
Thanks for your help.
