Squeezeplay OS & Topping VX1

Post by jon_boy »

Just bought my first Joggler and installed Squeezeplay OS. The geek in me is very impressed!

I also bought a Topping VX1 to use with the Joggler and this is where I need some help. Looking at dmesg, the OS seems to recognise the VX1 OK and it is listed in Squeezeplay / Mixer but I am unable to select it. I do not get sound from the VX1. (I have tested the VX1 by attaching it to a Windows 7 system and it works fine.)

I've looked with alsamixer and the device shows up as PCM & PCM1 only with no volume selectable.

I'm sure I am doing something silly but have no idea where to go next. (I am familiar with Ubuntu but only really as a server when sound isn't a factor!)

Any pointers much appreciated. Thanks!

Have you set audio output to external?

Yes. And rebooted afterwards.

In "Select Mixer Control" the top item listed is "HDA-Intel - HDA Intel MID". If I select this, I get a list of three items: "USB-Audio - VX1", PCM & PCM. Pressing "USB-Audio - VX1" takes me back to the previous screen which continues to list the "HDA-Intel - HDA Intel MID" as the first option.

Try this, I see you have almost tried , but this is the way I use with my ifAudio Nano.

On the Joggler

go to settings > audio settings > digital output > USB audio Topping (or whatever it is called)

Tap (Select) on this if you go to another screen you can play it by ear

then tap the return arrow in the top left screen and go back until you see the QUIT

Select this and select relaunch.

you might have to do this several times before it latches.

Good luck

I saw this after posting.

From this screen Return to Quit as described above and select Relaunch.

if you can, select some music playing (say from a streaming radio station). when the Joggler comes back from the Relaunch the music shoul start up.

It "latched" after second relaunch and has persisted through a restart. Thanks for the suggestion!

As an aside, I am very impressed with the sound when playing flac rips through a pair of high end Sennheiser headphones. All in all a great setup for not a lot of cash and I will be looking out for a couple more Jogglers.

Kushti 8-)

Use a second Joggler with the external OS on an expanded USB stick, into an unpowered USB hub, with the music files on an external USB drive (also into the hub).

Cheap all day Server.

I use a system like this, and for listening have a Joggler running just Squeezeplay on the internal OS, with an ifi iNano DSD dac and AKG 702 'phones.

Sounds good.

Don't forget to feed the birds

PS Relaunch might be required again (or not)
