RC6 remote with SpOS

Post by dec »

I have an O2 Joggler, running SpOS 1.09, with a RC6 (windows media centre) receiver & remote connected via the USB port and need a little help.

In it's current state I'm able to move between menus and change the volume. The only thing missing is the ability to pause/stop playback.

Is there any way of editing a relevant file, via ssh, to enable the pause command to work?

I have seen that lirc-x can be installed on the newer SpOS versions, but I would rather not have to change everything for one remote button if it's possible to avoid a full re-flash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RC6 remote with SpOS

Is my only option to upgrade to SpOS V2.06 and install lirc-x?

I have tried searching this (and other) forums for any help, but I was unable to find anything related. I'm sorry if I've missed anything obvious.

It would really complete my setup. All I would like to do is be able to pause my music, as all the other controls work for me.

I've not used lirc-x, which is why I hadn't bowled in on this. My guess is that if the package you need isn't available for Ubuntu Lucid (which is what v1 is based upon) then switching to v2 (based on Ubuntu Precise) is probably your easiest option.

Is your install on internal memory or an external flash disk? Just thinking about your best option to back up if it all goes to pot.

Thanks for the reply. My install is on the internal memory - sorry I should have mentioned that before.

I guess if v2 is needed then that's what I'll have to do.

As the remote appeared to be working, with no initial configuration, I just wondered if there was a simple config file that could be altered/edited to allow the pause/stop button to work.

I'm sure it won't be too big a deal to upgrade, I just try to stick to the 'if it ain't broke...' rule!

I like that rule! Unfortunately, too often I don't follow it... ;)

I'm trying my best to now - only from prior experience at not following it! :-)
