Squeezeplay drops audio 10 seconds before end of track

Post by topewan »

I have recently noticed that 10 seconds before the end of a track, the audio drops temporarily, before returning.

I have found other forum entries that discuss this bug, such as here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/archive/i ... 53047.html

These posts from 2008 suggest that 10 seconds is the time when the server starts to play the next track. It certainly didn't happen in the first 3 months that I've had the joggler, and I have only noticed this since upgrading the LMS and also the Squeezeplay OS.

To begin troubleshooting I wanted to be able to downgrade both the LMS and the Squeezeplay for joggler - can somebody help me with a link to previous versions so I can try that as a first step

Or - even better - if anyone knows of a way to fix the audio dropout bug without going down the downgrade route, that would be awesome

Thanks
Ewan

Which version of LMS are you using? I'd update LMS first before dropping back to 1.09.

Currently running 7.7.3 on the joggler itself. Library not huge - c.8000 tracks / 60GB or so stored on a NAS.
If I remove LMS from the joggler, and then reinstall it, the problem goes away temporarily - but then returns after a couple of days.

I'd still try an update to 7.8 ...

Happy to give it a go. Just ran into an issue when following your instructions though - no space left on device (see below)

I've read that the joggler is pretty much on the limit with LMS installed - any idea if there's anything I can remove to free up the necessary space?
Thanks
Ewan

Nope!

You'll need to expand the partition using something like gparted.

I've had this problem before and the only solution was to expand the partition to at least 2gb

Does that mean that it's not possible to install on the jogglers internal storage? Wanted to keep it local on the Joggler and just use the internal 1GB storage that it has - thanks for your help so far

You will read on the birdslikewires site that it isn't recommended to run both LMS and SqueezePlay from internal storage due to limited space. If you want them to run from the same device it's better to run them from USB.

Thanks - I know it wasn't recommended as ideal but I wanted to try and keep it neat - i'm also currently using the usb port for a remote control. Hopefully 7.8 fixes the issue - do we know if that was in the changelog (i didn't know it existed as Logitech's site never mentioned it)

I have a 4-port usb hub - unpowered (cost 1:50 euro at local Chinese shop). Runs with 8 gb usb card and remote adapter fine.

You may still have to resize the card. Write the img to a card, then resize the partition using gparted (either in linux or use a live usb gparted setup. Then boot the img on usb -setup the install then use the shell access as root, and install LMS via wget and dpkg -i .

In fact, if you have enough time and energy - you could try the above without gparted. There may be just enough space IF you don't install the defult LMS first. Just go for clean install of 7.8 via shell.

Do you use WiFi or cable? If you're not using the WiFi you can stick your USB key in the internal USB slot that the WiFi card uses. It will happily boot from this leaving the Joggler clean with a spare USB free on the side. Even better you could make a hole on the back for the hub mentioned above to connect to the internal USB for a clean look with several devices plugged in.

Post by topewan »

Thanks JimbobVFR400 and castalla

So, upgraded to LMS 7.8 which has solved the audio drop out problem which is great

Now running SqueezeOs and the LMS off a new Sandisk Cruzer Fit which is super low profile so not too unsightly. Needed GParted to expand the partition, but got it all together in the end.

Have ordered a 90degree usb hub from dx.com so I was going to tuck it all around the back of the joggler - but, am using ethernet so I may think about using this super small usb stick in the internal usb port - great idea!

Thanks again for your help - I hope this will be useful for anyone else experiencing this issue

Cheers
