Retained all the settings, plugin etc. LMS 7.8.0 has a few extra (useful) features compared to the 7.2 that I was previously using so well recommended. Thanks Castalla!! :)
What are the useful extras? I had no end of trouble with LMS 7.8, but my music server is an old Mac mini, so perhaps there's more polish on the Linux version. ;)

- Tunein radio works without MySB.com
- Global gain control for online music and radio, especially handy if you use Replay Gain tags on your own music and have playlists with online and local music mixed together or use smart mix or similar.
- Quite a few things specifically for Michael Hergers Music and Artist Information plugin, including the option to have artist pictures on the artist menu in Squeezeplay and the ability to view extra artwork not just the cover of you have them

Probably a few other thongs I've forgotten. Plus I'd say on SqPOS at least I actually find 7.8 to be more stable than 7.7.2 was previously, although I believe 7.7.3 also had the same memory and stability fixs that help with this but I jumped past it straight to 7.8

I think there are also improvements to the database scanning process

Oh yes that's a biggie. Particularly the handling of new and changed album art no longer needs a full clear and scan and is now picked up by a normal scan.

Oh and also podcasts are supposed to be much better, including resuming part listened to ones.

Cool... right, it may well be time to revisit LMS 7.8 then! :)

Is anyone else having the displaystandby problem some people (well me anyway) experienced in SQPos1?

What happens is displaystandby regularly fails unless I go into the screen settings and select a different time delay. It then works for a bit. I guess something conflicts between it and the screensavers. I think I will try and apply wilberforce's patches as I did in SQPos1 for this as these fixed it (if I can find them again!)

I occasionally had this on one of my SQOS v1 jogglers. I haven't seen it since I upgraded it to SQOSv2

(Is this the patch you're thinking off? It turns off the backlight when screen off is chosen as the screensaver - works ok on my SQOSv1 joggler)

Yeah, I've popped it on v2 and it's now working nicely.

Airplay on SqPOS

Post by castalla »

I'm planning to try out Airplay.

I'm a little confused (as usual) .... does Airplay work on the previous SqPOS version? or do I need to install the latest version?

Yep it worked fine on earlier versions, well my 1.09 one anyway. There was a point when AP was added I seem to recall.

On 1.09 you need to install it, in Squeezeplay go to settings ≥ advanced > additional features.

I think its enabled by default in the latest versions.

Hi everyone .... fellow LMS and joggler fans (I am a recent joggler convert) ....
whilst I am a complete linux novice I have done the following in my first week of ownership ......
I have succesfully installed and am running sqpos and lms flashed internally .... its great .... however I have a sizable library and i fear am nearly out of memory tho things running ok. I did the same for a friend but his seemed to 'lock up' and I reckon as his libray is larger we have reached the limitation of the internal memory ????
I have re configured to running from usb but I notice only the same amount of usb disk is allocated ..... how do i utilise more of the disk space for smoother running ... I have attempted to resize partitions but am unfamiliar with the concept .... is it the boot or root partition needs enlarged etc .... many thanx

Not the boot partition it's the larger one you need to resize.

Personally I use a bootable CD version of GParted to resize.

Do you use WiFi on your joggler or Ethernet. If Ethernet you can install the USB in place of the WiFi card and retain the clean looks and free USB port. That's what I do with mine.

Hi jimbob ..... maybe I should change my moniker to roughlychiron675 .... (Roll on spring)

thanx for reply .... I did attempt that very thing without success on 8gb stick but I could only extend the 32mb boot partition into the unallocated and not the 900ish mb root partition ....
yes I currently use wifi but if I get the 'serving' joggler to a more dedicated setup I will be doing as you suggest ....
I have another with internal spdif mod completed (no LMS installed) and it's very very good into coax connected dac .....

am I running not probs cause I use a windows pc perhaps?

cheers

Re: SqueezePlay OS Airplay integration with LMS

Post by castalla »

This is probably 'off-the-wall' ....

I've come across some threads on the LMS forums where there's a way to get Shairport working in LMS.

Any coding, etc. is way beyond me but I wonder if it would be possible to combine the Airplay feature with LMS so music could be piped to other sb players .. .

Here's a working example for Ubuntu - if I can get another usb stick working, I might just try it:

Does this mean that a server playing the Airplay stream could sync with other squeezeboxes/jogglers? I got a bit lost.

Shairport is already on SqpOS but I can only Airplay to one device at a time from my iPad (an iOS restriction). Apparently all SqpOS devices can be streamed to simultaneously using Airplay but only from iTunes - not very helpful when using streaming services.

Blimey, it's a round-the-houses route, but it might just work.

It's basically going iOS > AirPlay > 'Fake' Stream > WaveInput Plugin > Squeezebox(es), so instead of actually having to deal with AirPlay itself, LMS just receives WAV audio via the plugin and pushes it out to the Squeezebox. If it can push it to one, in theory it could push it to more.

I'll just say "Good luck"! ;)

Where's this patch? Were you seeing these issues on SQPOS v2?

If there's a problem, I'll see if I can fix it.

I'll have to relocate the post in the original SQP thread. Basically for some reason on my SQPOS1 and then SQPOS2 the display standby (is that what it was called?) would fail to kick in after a couple of times until I went back to the screen settings and selected a different time delay (or even just reselected the chosen one). Wilberforce had a patch which I believe circumnavigated/overrode this.
