Hi
First post so be gentle with me.
I had a hacked joggler happily running my squeezeplayer for ages and then for reasons unknown it decided to brick itself.
Although I am reasonably techie I hadnt hacked the Joggler myself - instead i bought a USB off ebay that did that all for me.
Anyway, my slightly rambling point, is that mainly via the excellent info and links on this site I managedto reflash the joggler and get ubuntu reinstalled on my joggler....however, it is running off a USB stick whereas before Ubuntu was running on the Joggler. Is there a way of installing Ubuntu permanently onto the Joggler thus removing the need to have a USB sticking outthe side all the time. Surely it would be quicker too??
Cheers guys
Ubuntu but NOT on a USB
Re: Ubuntu but NOT on a USB
it is likely to be slower. the onboard flash isn't very quick. Since flash is susceptible to write wear, i would recommend to use usb anyway. it's cheaper to replace a usb stick than a joggler. you can get usb sticks that stick out only a few mm also.KingTubby wrote: Anyway, my slightly rambling point, is that mainly via the excellent info and links on this site I managedto reflash the joggler and get ubuntu reinstalled on my joggler....however, it is running off a USB stick whereas before Ubuntu was running on the Joggler. I just did a basic sequential read on my joggler:
usb stick (/dev/sda): ~15MB/sec, just under 22MB/second and ~17MB/sec (bearing in mind this was the boot media so in use
internal flash (/dev/mmcblk0) no more than ~15MB/second
Re: Ubuntu but NOT on a USB
One of my Jogglers always maxed out at 4MB/s on the internal flash. The internal flash is now blank and it permanently runs Ubuntu from a stick.BuZz wrote:internal flash (/dev/mmcblk0) no more than ~15MB/second
