I've been using a Joggler flashed with the fantastic SqueezeOS for a wee while now.
To control it from distance I've been using Squeezeplay (from PC), or ipod/android apps. They all work fine but there's something missing from the user experience. Sometimes I wish I could just grab the remote like I do with the Squeezebox touch to select a song.
I've got an old Archos 70 IT android tablet lying around doing not very much. It would be absolutely fantastic if this could be made into a dedicated remote for the joggler/squeezebox (without going down the android app route). I know it can be hacked to multiboot with debian etc, but I just don't have any experience in this area.

Would it be possible to hack it so that it boot straight into SqueezePlay OS, like the joggler, or would there be too much work involved in changing the Joggler SqueezePlay OS to be compatible with this device?

Possible - yes, probably. Too much work? For me, yes, definitely!Ricky Roma wrote:I've got an old Archos 70 IT android tablet lying around doing not very much. ... If it's a commercial product running Android, the likelihood is that it's an ARM device. So you would need to recompile SqueezePlay for ARM (as the Joggler is Intel x86 based). You'd also need to restructure the interface for the device's resolution because SQP doesn't auto-resize. That would take a while.
All in all, it's a reasonable amount of work. But why not try to do it yourself and learn!

BirdsLikeWires - Get fresh builds of Debian Bullseye, Bookworm, and Trixie for OpenFrame with the latest 5.10, 6.1, and 6.12 kernels!

Ok, thanks for the reply. I kinda thought it might involve a fair bit of work
One of these days I'm going to try and put some time aside for projects like this.

I have a Tesco Hudl 2, which is an Intel x86 based android tablet. Would this be easier to port squeezeplay (OS) to?
Alternatively I suppose the cheap Windows Linx 8 (or 7/10") tablets could just run squeezeplay without any issues?
The Linx 8 has a £30 cashback offer (if you trade in an old tablet) and you can also extract and sell the Office 365 1yr subscription key for £20-30 on eBay. Works out to a cheap device which may be great for running squeezeplay?!
