PNPIII - trying to get NAS mounted for LMS - SUCCESS!!

Just a quick explanation.

What we are trying to do is set up a folder (eg. TEST) where the 'contents' of the NAS folder are copied - LMS then uses this TEST folder to set up the music library.

There's something strange about the PuTTy login - you shouldn't get that -sh: prompt

Nothing is going to work until we can get the 'normal' command line prompt.

Just a check - you have installed the latest version of PnP ?

Firmware version is 30300 (just checked it in "about") but not shure how to test what PNP version it is? Oh Wait, it's 3.31 I remember.. but not sure where I found that..

EDIT: I'm using Windows 7. Don't know if that matters??

Okay - from what I've been told, it looks as if the installation you made is screwed!

The problem is that none of the standard linux commands are being recognised - the system thinks they don't exist. That's why you keep getting the reply 'not found' whenever you enter something like dir

A pain but, unless somebody has a better idea, then your best bet is to reinstall. Once installed, then don't try the web access to your NAS. Just access via PuTTY, then do dir . Report back that you don't get that sh: not found message

If it works then we can proceed from there.

Well that doesn't sound as too big a surprise:
when I flashed the system with firmware 30300 that went OK.
But when I flashed PNPIII the first time it booted I had only one and a half screen with apps.
Reflashed again with PNPIII and the second time I had all the apps cf the manual
Just to be sure I did a reflash again with PNPIII (actually to see what would happen) but then everything was the same as the second time.

I did all this reflashing and stuff couple of times. And all times it went like I described before..

So, I have to reflash with firmware 30300 and then install PNPIII again, do I understand correctl? what could cause it to flash so strange??

You could too boot into Ubuntu with a USB stick and check out the MMC drive just to see how well it does with read / writes stuff relatively uninvasively and the primary firmware installation.

I have not seen issues on the forum to current date with the 1 gb MMC soldered on stuff. I have though seen issues with the 1mb flash chip though once in a while which is an easy replacement.

You could try a reflash with PnP - see what happens.

If there's no change with Putty login then better to start completely from the beginning.

(For one of my jogglers only the telnet method will work).

If you are sure that the reflash works and you think the issue is with the installation of PnPIII it might be worth copying the PNP files onto a different usb and trying again as some jogglers are fussy.

I flashed with the Reflash tool version 1.09 from BirdslikeWires
Then I copied OpenPeak Firmware version 30300 to reflash directory of USB stick
After that was finished I deleted contents of the Stick and copied the unzipped PNP_current to the root of the stick.

Then booted the Joggler up again with stick inserted, and then I get just 1,5 page with apps... Pull the plug, Reboot again (stick not removed) and then I get all the apps that are supposed to be there..

I think trying a new usb may be worth the effort. What you have now is effectively unusable.

You mean reformatted the usb?

The reflashing sounds about right from what I can remember.

If you try to use the pnp usb a second time, are you also removing the 'remove_for_new_install' file?

If the installation of PnP is really your problem, I think as well as trying a different usb you could also try installing it using the telnet method - see offbeatdave's first post on the PnP III thread for instructions and follow them closely. As I said - the auto install simply won't work on one of my jogglers but this method never fails for me.

hm no, the second time of installing I did not remove any file of the stick..
Second, I formatted another stick which now contains the PNPIII Software.

So tonight:
- reflash again with firmware 30300
- then flash PNPIII and see if all goes right (that is: all the apps in one time)
- if not: pull stick and delete file "remove before install" or whatever it is called
- reflash PNPIII again with same stick.
- PuTTY in and check what sort of commands appear ( -sh or not)

When that doesn't work I'll use another stick to flash PNPIII.

If that also doesn't work I'll look into manual install (telnet)

From the PNPIII manual:

Jogglers reflashed with the original OpenPeak reflasher
1) Preferably make sure your Joggler is clean.
As of 14th June 2012 there is a brand new OpenPeak USB reflasher available to download from

which should fix networking issues if you use PnP III v3.038 onwards.
Not sure about this step. I guess the .gz file goes in the "reflash" directory of a stick which is reflashed with Joggler_reflash_109 right? Or am I wrong?
2) Unzip the downloaded archive and copy all the files to a formatted USB stick .
Make sure any hidden files are copied.
Make sure there is no 'remove_for_new_install' file on the root USB stick

Sorry - can't help. Hope Offbeatdave can help.

As I understand it, it's a 2 step process. First, get a working Joggler via either Roobarb's tool or the official OP tool. Second, install PnP via either

a. Jogglers reflashed with Roobarb's cleaner post-update OpenPeak OS v30300 (recommended) or Jogglers running the original o2 OS

or

b. Jogglers reflashed with the original OpenPeak reflasher

If you have a working Joggler as in Step 1, you should have wifi also.

Once reflashed with the OpenPeak software, boot up and set up wifi before installing PnP.


Can I just check you are using v3.33c of PnP III. That is the one which should download from the links in the opening post.

I still think is it a reference to where the folder is on the NAS causing the problem.
