I'm setting up an old PC for my 8 year old daughter who will be using it for email, browsing & Youtube. Which distro would people recommend? The important bits are:
- looks a bit like Windows with taskbar at the bottom & menu button at bottom left
- ability to place shortcuts on desktop
- simple & user-friendly interface
I'm using Linux Mint 12 as dual boot on my own PC but the last time I looked at Mint 13 I don't think it allowed shortcuts to be placed on the desktop. But I may be wrong.
Which Linux distro?
Re: Which Linux distro?
Hello, I can suggest Xubuntu, it's ok for a old pc and the XFCE4 GUI is nice and confortable. You can add whatever you want on the desktop and create menubars like Windows style.
I don't use Mint, I use Ubuntu with Gnome shell (not Unity) but it's really heavy and it is not good for a old pc!

Re: Which Linux distro?
I have a high end pc (ish) and use xfce. I might test the new gnome 3.8 classic mode though at some point. I guess I just like oldstyle desktop
