Just to close the loop on my request, alsamixer did the trick! By default the front speaker and headphone outputs were muted. Works fantastic now!!toadmazter wrote:Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll be travelling until later this week, but I look forward to the alsamixer test when I return!

Many Thanks
P.S. Whatever I type in it comes back with -sh: "anyword": not found
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Your second Joggler isn't running SqueezePlay OS. You're running SqueezePlay on the native OS, which doesn't include the 'sudo' command. I wouldn't try setting a static address on it - the OpenPeak network config is a bit different.jaydee999 wrote:I successfully did this on one of my Jogglers last night, and it seems to have worked (although it's not showing up as a device on my router). how to enable SqueezePlay AIRPLAY on the native OS??

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
It's not part of SqueezePlay on the native OS because of the number of dependencies.nick20000 wrote:Hi,roobarb!

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Just a note to highlight an issue I found on my Zyxel NSA325 last night with the Logitech Media Server install from Zyxel. The files that drive transcoding aren't marked executable. In my case this was preventing a couple of Jogglers running Squeezeplay OS to not be able to play BBC radio via the BBC iPlayer plugin. As highlighted before The BBC now prefer AAC streams which squeezeplay cant play natively. They were working fine on my SB Radio which can play AAC natively.
Took a while to track down (!) - including reinstalling LMS and reflashing the jogglers. Thought I was going mad when I couldn't get BBC radio to play ! One change of permissions on the files on the server and it burst into life......

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Hi,
Apologies for asking this in this thread but if anybody knows you guys will.
Firstly I should say I’m a long time user of the SqueezeplayOS on the Joggler and think it’s brilliant.
I use a Joggler as a bedside radio with LMS running on it to also serve my SB3 on the hi-fi in the lounge.
It all works flawlessly. I even have a Flirc plugged into it so I can use the SB3 remote control on it. See http://flirc.tv/
Lately I’ve been playing around with a Raspberry Pi, and what I want to achieve is to run Squeezeplay on it but only as a controller (plugged into my telly) for the SB3. Hopefully with the enlarged Joggler skin.
I’ve ploughed through many threads regarding Squeezeplay and the Pi, but most revolve around headless playback, and after suffering playback difficulties people switch to Squeezelite. I’m not interested in playback.
I tried the Squeezeplug image a few times but got no joy from that. It installs Squeezeplay but when I run it the screen just goes blank.
Is there an alternative to Squeezeplug to get Squeezeplay on the Pi?
I’m trying to run in composite PAL mode (so 720x576i).
So, is what I want to achieve even possible?
Cheers!
Glenn

Maybe you should start this as a thread in Off Topic to avoid hijacking this one with Raspberry Pi posts. I'm interested in installing LMS alongside Raspbmc and I'm sure the thread would grow.
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Yeah no worries, I'll do that tomorrow. Ta.
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Wow, this is great.
Just a question - my fat fingers selected German as my language - which I then went back and corrected to English. Now half the menu items show up in English and half in German
I have rebooted a few times - and no luck.
Suggestions?
edit
deleted cache and all seems ok now

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
I can't say how nifty this it. I have spent days trying to get my sheevaplug to work and given up.
Then along come this!
I am a linux newbie so have one more question.
I have 1.09 of SqpOS up and running. But when I try to do a network mount point with smb it doesn't seem to work.
I have added
username xxxx done
password xxx done
and saved credentials (though when I go back to the two forms they are not filled out)
then I enter the server ip address as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
and then enter the path as public
and apply and connect.
comes up with a message
when i go to the my lms server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9000 settings I can see srv/media but nothing underneath it
Suggestions?
edit:
seems the fstab file wasn't being saved via the advanced settings network mount.
So I edited it myself - and works
cool

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Thanks.
Thanks so much.
I've spent years trying to get the sync with MPD/pulseaudio to work *just* *right* and never quite got there. I discovered your work with Squeezeplay OS and have instantly decided to buy two more jogglers.
Truly excellent, many thanks! The AAC was a little confusing but after sym-linking the faad and flac binaries inside squeezeboxserver (/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/i386-linux/) to ones that actually run (they don't for some reason) it all sprung into life and the experience is very smooth indeed.
Thanks and thanks again.

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Hey! Amazing work!
Ive been having SOO many problems but turns out my wifi is just crap, finally hard wired and its as its playing music locally! so amazing
Anyway I wonder if I could ask a couple of questions.
1) is there a way to increase the wait time for the server to wake up. Its quite annoying when it says "cannot connect to server" but then when you click retry its instantly connected. It just needs the one second longer or so to wait for the NAS to resume. Anyway of setting this?
2) Is there anyway to reduce the touch screen sensitivity?
3) when the screen is OFF it seems the touchscreen is still on. As when I touch the screen to wake it up it turns on AND registers the click on the item that was under my finger!
4) is there any way to scale the items on the screen, to make it a little bigger to see and use?
Thanks again

Just a quick note to say I am still around, but haven't had much time to work in the Joggler recently. Busy busy times, including trying to teach myself Objective-C. Dizzying!

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Hey, just to quickly say I have fixed point 3). It turns out the screen was going into standby mode NOT not into screensaver mode. So the screen was always "on" just off backlight.
So i enabled screensaver and turn off standby and its all fixed
But still if you could shed any light on the other points, Point 1 if any, that would be great!
Thanks again
Matthew

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Hi All,
A tale that may amuse you, followed by a request for advice...
Have set up my second Joggler in the lounge, with SqueezeplayOS, working very nicely with my stereo (managed to equalise the volume levels). Thought I'd make it even more acceptable to my wife by having it behave like a digital photo frame whenever it's turned on (but not actually playing music).
Googled around and found what looked like a great solution. I put a load of optimised JPGs on my webspace, then created a .lst text file listing the URLs of the images, which I also put on my webspace. Finally I pointed Squeezeplayer's 'Image Viewer' feature to the web address of the text file. Selected the appropriate screensaver settings, and bingo! Strutted round the house for 24 hours proclaiming what an IT god I am.
I'm sure you're way ahead of me on what happened next...
My IT god status was somewhat dented when my webspace account was suspended for busting my bandwidth. The busy little Joggler had pulled down 3 gig of pictures in a day or two (the wife liked the pictures so much she'd left it turned on...). Had to do a shamefaced backtrack, reactivate the account with a sympathetic support helpdesk, and go back to the clock as my screensaver!
Which brings me to my question - it'd be much better to have the Joggler pull the pictures from my Windows Home Server (same place where the music lives). The server has a name and a fixed IP address. I've tried allsorts of paths to have Image Viewer find the appropriate folder, but no joy. Has anyone managed anything like this, and could you let me know what your path looks like?
ta!

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Answered my own question, but not in the way I expected. Just in case this is of use to someone else...
Problem: wanted to use a folder of images on my Home Server as a screensaver, but didn't know how to point SqueezeplayOS to the appropriate folder.
Solution: there's a 3rd party plugin for Logitech Media Server that does this. It installs a Picture Gallery, which fetches images from elsewhere on the home network.
Plugin is called 'Gallery' by Michael Herger, info here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthrea ... lugin-v1-0 and also here: http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/deta ... im-plugins .
Log into LMS through the web interface at <myservername>:9000. Go to 'settings' at the bottom right corner > Plugins tab > add 'http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/repo.xml' under 'additional repositories'. This allows all the developer's plugins to appear as options to install under a submenu of 'Michael's Slim Stuff'. Tick the Gallery plugin and install it (think you just click 'apply' if memory serves).
Once it's installed (it appears as 'Picture Gallery') click on 'settings' and browse to your folder of pictures on your server to select it. Click 'Apply' again.
The rest was bit trial & error as the plugin doesn't have any instructions: I had to restart the Joggler to have the plugin show up under the Joggler / SqueezeplayOS 'Extras' menu. Once in there you can open Picture Gallery, and you'll see your chosen folder of images. Long-press it to open a submenu to tick it as one of your 'Favorites'.
FINALLY under the SqueezeplayOS 'Settings > Screen > Screensavers' menu you'll see the folder of images appear as an option alongside the various choices of clock etc. It'll either appear by its folder name, or simply as 'Favorites' (mine has shown up as both names, don't know why...).
Hope that brief explanation makes sense, and apologies if everyone apart from me knew all that lot already!

The link you gave says:
"Important notice
Image handling requires powerful hardware. Don't try to run this plugin on your underpowered NAS unless you're very patient. Scaling down full size photos taken with your digital camera can take several seconds per image, rendering theoverall browsing experience awkward.... PC class hardware is recommended.
But there's a bit of hope. Squeezebox Server 7.6 will feature highly improved image handling routines. Resizing images will be much faster, and it'll optionally alow for pre-caching resized artwork. Look forward to it or take the plunge and give the nightly beta builds a try. But don't complain if it doesn't work as expected as long as it's beta. You've been warned.
Having said that I can tell you that I'm running Squeezebox Server 7.6 and the Gallery plugin on very modest PC class hardware (Via C3/1GHz). And I consider it fun to use. Anything you bought in the past 2-3 years might easily outperform this old box."
I suspect that my quite elderly Buffalo Linkstation NAS would struggle with this - are you using a NAS or a PC for LMS?

I'm using an HP Proliant N40L home server, which is coping fine (as you'd expect I suppose).dwl99 wrote:I suspect that my quite elderly Buffalo Linkstation NAS would struggle with this - are you using a NAS or a PC for LMS?
Having said that, I've also optimised the images for the Joggler, as I thought the versions straight from the camera would be unnecessarily large. You can do it as a batch in Photoshop, or the GIMP photo-editing software is free (though I can't remember if it does batch commands). Also, if you're on a Windows PC, Picasa (the free Google picture manager) can batch-optimise images: http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/picasa ... tiples.htm
I was a bit surprised at his dire warnings about the demands on the server. Especially if the pics are optimised, you wouldn't think dishing out a small JPG would be much harder than streaming a music file?
Good luck!
