Thanks for your help offbeatdave - managed to write that updated openpeak image so thought I'd give the usb install a go. Worked like a charm but it threw me that there was no outward sign that it was actually updating. I was expecting scrolling text or some kind of message, but I only had a black o2 screen. Is that normal? I actually thought it had frozen and pulled the plug after a while but it must have finished as everything works fine. I look forward to having a play tomorrow. Thanks again!

Received my first joggler last night and did exactly this at 11pm, perfect timing eh.

Thanks for all the good work you and roobarb have put into this, great effort chaps, keep it up. Love putting my mates $$$$ Sonos system to shame!
Fantastic - and great to have a confirmed success! :)

Yeah, and I should again thank roobarb for pointing me in the right direction/doing the hard work to get this moving.

Patience is the key; there are lots of posts mentioning that you have to leave the Joggler alone for quite some time for the install to happen. And yes, the black screen with the O2 logo is normal; there is no verbose confirmation that things are happening. Take the dog for a walk, read a book, cook a meal etc. and go back after at least half an hour and PnPIII should have installed and you will see the home screen.

Don't "pull the plug after a while" because you might have to reflash and re-install PnPIII to get everything working properly.
Having said that, if you're still stuck on the O2 logo after an hour or more, you probably do have to start the process again, possibly with another stick.

From the instructions in the first post: ;)
This can take 10-20 minutes depending on the USB stick.
It may 'reboot' a few times but will stay on the 'OpenPeak' or 'o2' boot screen.
Not as sophisticated as roobarb's gubbins I'm afraid!

Despite the 10-20 mins guideline, a couple of my sticks have taken almost half an hour to do their stuff. My advice is to do it when you've got something else you can be doing too.

Watched kettles... etc.

My bad! As I've only ever pnp'ed by telnetting in I'm used to seeing text scroll by at the speed of light! Had I actually been sensible and read beyond 'download the current version here'.... Will remember not to panic and be patient next time. ;)

Offbeatdave, I've read the thread for squeezelite and installation seems quite complicated (to me). If it's been simplified with the bits you've added, could you bear to guide me through it? If it's still quite a process I'll leave well alone. Thanks!

Wow, just updated my newly acquired Joggler to your latest version Dave, it has come a long way since I last used about a year ago , love all the little extras you have added, touched up graphics etc and the whole thing seems a lot more responsive to me than before.
Lovely work that man.
Thanks again.
Cheers

No problem. It is a year to the month since I first let my collection of other people's bits lose on the Joggling world!
Looking back, I agree - everything is more refined!

As always thanks to gforums for the original PnP, roobarb, jkn, buzz and everyone else who has done all the hard work and to everyone who has taken the gamble and installed it!

Is anybody successfully using a better wireless usb stick in their Joggler either on PNP III or stock os?
I am finding a bit of stuttering on video and cable is a no no also would rather avoid powerline adapters if poss.
I think there are 3 different data speeds even for wireless "N" adapters and would love to think I could just plug a better one in :-)

Not on the stock OS, I'm afraid. There are no other wireless drivers in there, and without kernel headers we can't compile new ones.

The 802.11n WNDA3200 is supported on sqpOS, though. ;)

Glad I asked lol thanks yes squeezeplay os destined for the bedroom possibly :-)
But this one needs tv and browser and WAF he he.
Is the wireless in the Joggler just specific to that device or are there maybee other usb wireless sticks that take the same drivers?
Thanks

You maybe can purchase a pair of netbook wireless antenna (short) and carefully wrap them around the periferal edges of the Joggler case. These migh work a touch better than the little ones inside of the Jogger.

Try jumping in at:
Then try

Code: Select all

 squeezelite -h
you should get a list of options, you might then want to try:

Code: Select all

squeezelite -d decode=debug

to check which codecs are loaded. End via CTRL-C

After that start running "for real" in background via:

Code: Select all

    squeezelite -n Squeezelite -m aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22 &

The only critical thing here is to specify a MAC address (via -m option) which is different to the native Joggler MAC, as things get very confused if they're the same (or allowed to default to being the same)!

You can then control via the Squeezeplay UI by selecting "Squeezelite" in Settings=>Choose Player
I've not had a chance to test this though on the current PnP III (v3.201)

Do the drivers on the wiki page make any difference?

Ohh thanks hadnt seen this

I wonder if this is already applied to the latest image of the stock os? I suppose it probably is.

No, it hasn't - the drivers are the stock drivers, as I'd completely forgotten this existed! It should work; I think the kernel is the same...

Please let me know how you get on, because if it's a success I could easily roll this driver into an update.

Thanks offbeatdave and florca. I've got squeezelite working! Just a quick play so far, but it's certainly playing tracks from my spqos joggler. :D and continues to play when I exit it so I can get into other apps.

However, I didn't specify a different MAC address (as I had no idea how to do this) so not sure what problems lie ahead.

Cheers Roobarb, that would be great :-) I shall have to work out how to do it first though as all my joggling is very limited up to now lol just writing images and thermal trip point tweak oh and rescuing a joggler with a keyboard attached,
no telnet in up to now.
If anybody beats me to it please give the heads up :-D.

Should be OK if you use the one generic Mac from the code I pasted earlier. Sounds like you've got it sorted anyway!
