How much damage have I done to my joggler

Post by jaydee999 »

Hi there
I am afraid that my incessant jiggling with my jogglers might have caused its first casualty. I now have a faulty USB port where the internal plastic piece has snapped off and which has meant me having to use tweezers to straighten the 4 metal strips that are now flopping about inside, which got bent when I tried to insert a stick on one occasion. In my haste to repair it, at one point I was also doing this "tweezerin" whilst the power was on. Please rest assured that this was not intentional, and I'm not proud to admit it, but it might have a bearing on the problem (e.g. shorting/frying something).
The situation is now as follows. Whether there is a USB stick placed carefully in the port or not, withe the metal strips properly aligned, the machine boots to a black O2 screen and hangs there. If it is in, the stick (reflashing tool) does not seem to come alive - no flashing LED light, nothing. After about 60 seconds the unit then powers itself down (wish it had that option by default on a healthy one).
The model number is AO2JOGXN. It was running PnPIII before its demise.
Does anyone know if it is totally bricked, or can I recover it somehow? I'm happy to try anything, including opening it up (again) (e.g. does it have an internal USB port?), but would probably draw the line at removing or replacing any soldered parts. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.
Cheers

The wifi card goes in a USB port internally, so if you remove the card you can boot off a stick inserted there. I have a joggler running permanently off this port. Providing of course nothing has been damaged with possible shorting of the external port.

You can see the card and port at the top of this photo.

Black screen with no flashing lights inside? Sounds quite dead to me. :(

RIP Joggler.

Hi Jimbob

Many Many thanks!! There is not just hope, there is life! This joggler has been renamed Phoenix. I was able to use the WiFi card port to install roobarb's Squeezeplay onto the internal memory, and then put it back after installation. Everything has booted up fine, and device is streaming via WiFi. It appears that the only damage I have done is to the external USB port. Given that this unit was destined to remain permanently as a Squeezebox device for the foreseeable future, then it's as good a result as I could hope for. Thanks again.

Risen like a fiery Phoenix! :D

Good to hear that it's not dead - yes my brain hadn't registered the word O2, only the word black. I suspected the worst.
