Display offset on Windows XP

Post by inaxeon »

There doesn't seem to be a lot of talk about this problem around the forum, so I'd like to start a thread about this...

Has anyone definitively solved this problem? I'm currently running Mevi's build...

When I look at this on my scope it looks like the vertical back porch is too small (should be minimum 35 lines to get correct verticial alignment). I've seen some mention of rebuilding the IEGD around this forum but no one has specifically talked about fine tuning the DTD for the Joggler LCD (which I'm guessing is incorrect in current builds?)

Or am I just silly and someone's already done an IEGD with the correct DTD for the Joggler LCD?

It varies between Jogglers, for instance, my foshiz mini builds work fine on everybody else's Jogglers, but on mine they have the offset.

Well for me, It's very clear why I have an offset. My panel doesn't tolerate anything less than 35 lines of vertical blanking (exactly as per the LCD datasheet). The driver in Mevi's build only seems to fire out about 28 lines of VB before clocking in the frame so it's not surprising there's an offset.

The real question is: How is this working for anyone else?! Is there more than one panel in use in the Joggler? Mine is LQ070Y3LG4A.

Other question: Where is this driver currently in use coming from? Did someone make up a DTD to go with it? If so, can they post it here so I can have a look?

Driver is from the iegd gold release, inside that download from intel there should be all the tools needed for building your own driver, if you manage to make one without the offset, please share it with the forum.

I guess I'll have to give it a crack.

Almost two years ago I had my Joggler's LCD hooked up to an Intel Crown Beach reference design (From which the Joggler was based). Because it has a full PC BIOS I was able to run Windows XP on it, and I did actually build an IEGD with the correct DTD for LQ070Y3LG4A. There was definitely no offset, on this very same panel. Based on that, I think there's a very good chance this can be solved.

It seems I no longer have that IEGD build but I do have a piece of paper with my DTD scribbled down on it. Not in the best of health at the moment but next time I get a chance I'll install the IEGD and build another package...

I think there must be some HW differences for some Joggler's LCD panels, as none of my Jogglers ever showed the offset.

Try this: http://xpander.mattmillman.com/data/fil ... Y3LG4A.zip

That definitely removes all of the offset on mine. It's an older version than your IEGD (Sorry!). If it's good I'll do a newer one.

Because it's older You'll have to do:

"Don't Search, I will chose the driver to install"
then
"Have disk"

If it complains any files are missing, keep redirecting it back to the unzipped directory.

I'm actually quite interested to know how these drivers look on a "good" panel, i.e. someone who isn't reporting an offset...

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
having had the pleasure to get a Joggler on Ebay I became a silent reader of Your fine board over the last days. Following the detailed posts here I managed to get the XP Build 3 running, then I followed the steps to create my own image and what a joy, it actually runs on it, too :-)
Many thanks for the effort to put up such fool-proof detailed how-to`s.

But a problem I had with both XP versions is that the touch function seems to "wrap around" the vertical and horizontal edges. Touching the very edge on a side makes the cursor appear on the opposite and draws a box or moves/resizes windows until You can`t get to them any more. Seems they are hidden off the screen. The device is an AO2JOGXN model sporting a simple "O2" boot screen instead of "OpenPeak".

Is this the mentioned offset bug ?
And is there any chance to re-post the fixed driver so others can have a go at it and hopefully get the device working correctly ?

Thanks for all Your efforts, which make the Joggler an astonishing device.

The offset you mention is when the display is offset, rather than the touchscreen response you are describing. I've the same thing happening on the Jogglers here at home to a lesser or greater degree. The touch screen calibration option shortcut on the desktop might help you there.

Inaxeon prepared this XP driver for the GMA 500 if you want to try that for improved display performance

I just loaded the custom video driver and noticed that the picture on the 3 Jogglers I installed it on seems a bit sharper to me.

Thanks for Your answer, Mevi.
If I get You right the phenomenon I described has nothing to do with the offset You`re all talking about.
My touchscreen is like the cursor accelerates towards the edges and wraps around, there`s no graphical offset in any way.
I downloaded the driver the other day but had no succes using it, also it gave me 8bit color quality only.
So far my workaround is to put the taskbar right-hand side and stay away from the bottom edge. Seldom something to click there anyway...

On a side note, I found a nifty little tool for doing long-press-as-right-click for those running XP without the tablet features,
check it out here : http://ask.metafilter.com/26273/Clickan ... rightclick

But thanks for the new driver link, I`m happy it has a positive effect for others.
